2007 dodge ram 1500 oil filter number

1.0 out of 5 stars Smaller than other brands.

Don't buy. Filter is ~20% smaller than similar brands (see attached photo) and created a low oil pressure situation in my van (2005 Chrysler) that nearly left my family stranded as the low pressure oil switch caused the van to not start. Spend a few cents more and buy a better quality filter.

How can I fairly evaluate an oil filter?
I can't see what's going on inside of it.
It has always been my belief to buy good oil and a cheap filter. You're only going to throw it away next oil change. An oil filter is designed to do exactly what it's name implies and that's to filter your oil. If you keep your oil changed on a regular basis there shouldn't be an accumulation of foreign particles in your oil. If there are foreign particles in your oil, it's the oil filter's job to catch those particles and keep them from circulating in your oil. Buy good quality oil and the cheapest filter you can find. They all work and you're only going to throw it away next oil change. As far as the things that Amazon suggests I rate it on such as "Easy to remove" that depends on where the filter is located on your vehicle. Some are easier to get to than others. As far as one brand being easier to remove than another brand, they're all the same.
As for evaluating it on mileage, like I previously mentioned, I can't see inside of it. Contrary to popular belief it's not necessary to change your oil every 3000 miles. People who do that are only wasting oil. I change my oil every 5 to 6 thousand miles and have never had an oil related engine failure.

These are surprisingly well made filters. Their filtering ability is slightly better than the Fram Extraguard but they incorporate better construction. Nice solid, stiff containers, better bypass valve construction and better flow. Also, the end caps are metal for what it's worth. Although they are smaller than OE and I would like to see them longer, they work great for 5k oil change intervals with quality oil.
