Since I just bought my 2014 RAM 1500 Sport, I'm wondering how much I should expect to pay for oil changes at the dealer. Any thoughts, and or should I consider going to a quick lube?
Thanks in advance,

I had bad luck going to Jiffy Lube, i caught them putting in the house brand motor oil, instead what i told them to put in

I bought my motor oil at Walmart when i had a 2009 Ram w/ the HEMI, they charge $26.68 for the 5 quart jug of Mobil One 5W-20 Advanced Full Synthetic Motor Oil,
they originally came from the factory with 7 quarts of Mobil One 5w-20 & a WIX oil filter

I would buy my WIX filter on sale at Oriely's or Carquest when it was on sale, maybe $7.00 when not on sale

Then i took it to the dealership to have them service the truck
They charged me $28 for labor & the waste fee

So i spent around $85 all together for the oil change, topping off windshield, brake & coolant fluids, checking tires, etc.

One thing that i found while researching motor oil

unless you have

excessive

mileage on your vehicle, do Not buy oil that reads Extended Life, Extended Performance, or High Mileage motor oil
Those are meant for engines that are on their last legs & you just need it to last a little longer

I use Pennzoil platinum ultra and a wicked oil filter for my truck. I change my own oil. I just picked up two 5 qt jugs for $20 each off of Amazon.

Check to see if your dealer has specials, where you can buy 4 oil changes for 2 years or something similar. Pretty good prices on these offers.

It's about $60 for full synthetic at my local dealer unless they are running a special. They want almost $100 at Valvoline instant oil change for the same service. I used to enjoy changing my own but I work too much now a days. I'd rather be out golfing, fishing or hunting than wrenching.

As mentioned check you dealer for the Package deal ! I used to never bite on any dealer deals lol BUT I have the Pentastar V6 w/6qt. Oil. I use full synthetic and bought the dealer package ! 211$ w/tax for 4 110% synthetic oil changes and 4 tire rotation so for about 53$ a change it is not worth me doing it

My dealer charges 39.95 for 7 quarts of reg oil and filter. they also do an inspection of my vehicle and top off any fluids. They always have a $10 off coupon. The dealer eventually offered me a package deal for 4 changes in two years for the 29.95 price for each change and I don't have to look for a coupon.

Thanks for all the responses. It makes sense to have dealer do the work, if at all possible, assuming they really do check all the other stuff they say they do.

If you can trust the dealer. I don't trust the sleazy scumbags at Reno Dodge. So my truck doesn't go there for anything.

My dealer charges me $19.99 for the synthetic mix they use. I always get my oil changed at the dealer to document it as I have the MaxCare Lifetime.

I use a garage that formerly was a Dodge dealer. They were one of the dealers who lost their franchise a few years back when Chrysler was trimming. I bring my choice of oil and filter and they charge around $20. Also, if I buy 4 number 5 is free.

I use my local dealer for oil changes with their 4 oil changes in 2 years deal. It costs about $104 for synthetic blend. A decent price I think. Plus the tire rotations are free since the tires were purchased at the dealer.

My dealer just sent me an offer of $165 for a year of full synthetic oil changes (3) including tire rotations, wash, fluid top off and of course their good old "multipoint checkups".

The problem with the service deal from the dealer is I don't drive my truck enough miles to need 4 services in 2 years so it's no deal at all. My truck is only one of 3 vehicles I drive.

So I'm going to a local shop Saturday where I can take my own oil & filter to them and they will change for $20. That's the same they would charge to do a 5 quart change with no name dino oil and a cheap filter. I'd much rather spend the extra for Penzoil Platinum full synthetic and a good filter since it's only getting changed once a year. I used to do it all myself but these days I'd rather spend the $20 and drink coffee than lie in the snow under the truck.

Same here, I thought about the 4 oil changes in 2 years but I don't drive much. Bought my 2017 in June of 17 and it just turned over 11,000 miles. I am going to buy my oil and filter and take it to the dealer.

I have the dealer do my oil changes. IIRC, the standard oil change is $36.95 but since I bought my truck there, it's $10.00 less. The synthetic is usually around $80. I try to be good to my truck and give it synthetic, it lasts longer and it's a little quieter, plus when I'm towing or pushing snow I want the most protection available.

I have the Max Care lifetime warranty so having the dealer handle the oil changes is ideal. I don't trust the quick lube shops; the dealer has a vested interest in not screwing up my truck.

I figured out, when I buy my oil at wally world, I pay overall $55-60 for oil and filter, have to wait till it's dry weather- regardless if it's cold or hot outside, lay in the dirt, do all this stupid finger burning (usually drive the engine warm before I make the change) and invest about overall 1 hour- including puffing on my vape, wiping dust off the engine cover, pet my buddy Dixon, search for the freaking oil filter band, pour the old oil back in the bottle for getting it to the dump, etc...
When I go to the dealer, I drive down there for 30 minutes, get unlimited free coffee, walk around, look at some trucks and other vehicles, talk with some people and when it's done after ~1 hour, I pay around $40 bucks and drive back home for another 30 minutes- over all 2 hours me-time without getting dirty hands.
That's just what you do, when you get older.

Skip wally if you’re paying that much. I paid half that buying pennzoil ultra platinum synthetic oil and a wix xp filter.
