New balance p 550 x aime leon dore

New Balance has found, arguably, their most influential partner in the last few years with Aime Leon Dore. As the NYC-based fashion label founded by Teddy Santis continues to push forward in the industry, it has also lent its hand in curation for the Boston-based footwear giant as it helped revive the now-popular New Balance 550 and 650 silhouettes. With the former of the two being the duo's most iconic collaboration, multiple new colorways have popped up throughout the year, though now ALD has officially unveiled the next drop, coming in "Grey Ivory" and "White Ivory."

With detailed looks already given on the "Grey Ivory" pair, the "White Ivory" appeared seemingly out of nowhere, opting for a similar color scheme with slight tweaks to the material. While the grey variation comes in a mostly all-suede construction throughout its overlays, the white version gets the leather treatment while featuring the same ALD and NB co-branding details on the tongue, heel, and insole. Exclusive to the "Grey Ivory" colorway, navy blue shades land on the aforementioned logo on the tongue while the “N” logo along the midfoot gets trimmed in a similar blue shade. Cream colors appear on the base layer, visible on the toe and collar portions while this hue continues onto the lacing system. Underfoot, both pairs feature a vintage cream 550 midsole. Rounding out the design is the rubber outsole that comes in a slightly different cream shade on the grey pair while the white gets a lighter shade of cream compared to the midsole above.

The Aime Leon Dore x New Balance P550 Grey Ivory and White Ivory are set to release on October 31st, 2022 through a raffle on Aime Leon Dore’s website, though those on their mailing list may receive early access to the raffle. Releasing in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $130. Keep it locked to our Twitter and the Sole Retriever mobile app for real-time updates on the release of this collaboration and more in the sneaker and streetwear world.

With Teddy Santis taking over creative control at New Balance, the brand’s recent revitalization has skyrocketed via the MADE In USA collection, while collaborative offerings with his own label – Aimé Leon Dore – have refused to take a backseat. Less than a month after dropping a trio of New Balance 650’s, the latest joint proposition is set to release a duo of 550’s tomorrow.

Much more minimal in its aesthetic compared to past builds, the silhouette’s differ from one another by employing either a “Sail” and white leather combination or a dominant grey suede offering. Identical in its use of an aged vanilla-hued sole unit, crisp white tongue construction, sock liner, vamp and fuzzy “Tapue” midfoot logo, the pair of silhouettes remains disparate once again via its selection of clad white or “Royal Blue” ALD-branded tongue tabs.

Set to debut via raffle tomorrow, October 31st at aimeleondore.com, enjoy one last look at official images of the Aimé Leon Dore x New Balance 550 below in the meantime.

For more from the New England-based institution, a UK-Made New Balance 1500 is releasing on Wednesday, November 2nd.

Since taking up the position of Creative Director over at New Balance, Teddy Santis has gifted sneaker culture with an impressive number of MADE in USA offerings. And though expanding rapidly every month, said collection has not yet distracted the designer from his own label, Aimé Leon Dore, which is about to release another round of collaborative 550s.

Popularized by Santis and his New York-based hotspot, the 550 has maintained an upwards trajectory since its return a few years ago. And while inline styles have produced hype of their own upon reveal, none have been able to rival those marked with the coveted ALD logo. Here, an additional set of colorways is to be given such an honor, these clad in a composition distinct mmore minimal than previous installments. Here, white leathers construct the brunt of one option and grey suedes the other; the accents adjacent, though predominantly neutral color, usher subtle hints of blue across the branding of the latter pair and the midsole of the former.

What is the difference between New Balance Aime 550 and Leon Dore?

As you might expect to see from the standard release New Balance 550 colourways, the shoes feature full-grain leather overlays, mesh underlays and a rubber outsole. In fact, the only other differences can be found in the custom Aimé Leon Dore branded tongue, co-branded insert and an aged-look New Balance “N” logo.

Is the New Balance 550 a limited edition?

The original 550 debuted in 1989 and made its mark on basketball courts from coast to coast. After its initial run, the 550 was filed away in the archives, before being reintroduced in limited-edition releases in late 2020, and returned to the full-time lineup in 2021, quickly becoming a global fashion favorite.

Why are the New Balance 550s so popular?

Why Is New Balance 550 Popular? A combination of vintage looks and 80s-era basketball sneakers being fashionable, high profile collabs and limited availability have made the New Balance 550 an extremely popular sneaker model. Hype is the reason the sneaker is difficult to find, or at least was from 2020-early 2022.

Are New Balance 550 coming back?

Since the 550 was relaunched back in 2021, ALD's iterations have undeniably been the most popular, especially the initial colorways that arrived what feels like an eternity ago as part of Aimé Leon Dore's Spring/Summer 2021 collection.
