-
Engine oil can be scalding hot! If your engine is warmed up, wait a few minutes to allow the oil to cool before beginning.
-
Drive your Subaru's front wheels up onto ramps. Shut off engine. Then crawl under and find the oil drain plug/bolt. Make sure to have your oil catching device under the drain bolt. Then unscrew!
-
As the oil drains, get out from under your car and take off oil filter. Make sure the old gasket comes off with old oil filter. If not, remove from engine. Then add some oil to the gasket of the new filter via your finger. Then scew onto engine but do not over tighten.
-
Before refiling the engine with 0W-20 oil, reinstall and tighten the drain plug. Don't over tighten!
-
Refill the engine with oil. Do not over-fill. Add the amount that is suggested in the owners manual.
-
Start the engine. Verify there are no leaks. Then drive your Subaru to a flat place. Shut off engine. Open the hood and take out the engine oil dipstick. Wipe with a paper towel. Reinsert all the way. Then take out again. Make sure the oil is full. Add more if necessary!
-
Write down the date and total mileage so you know when to change the oil next.
