1 Power Steering Light On problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 04/27/2021

Traveling at highway speeds with the vehicle heading in a fairly straight trajectory, attempts to adjust the steering slightly in either direction (to correct for any drifting) are met with resistance in the form of the steering "sticking" to its' current position. Abnormal effort is required to "unstick" the steering, at which point there is a jerking result that causes an oversteer in the direction of the attempted correction.

5 Power Steering Light On problem of the 2012 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 02/20/2020

The power steering light will come on and the cars power steering column will lock up. I was driving down the road approximately 60 mph and the power steering light came on. I could barely turn the steering wheel . I was able to slow down and people helped me get it to the side of the road. I had the car towed to the dealership and I was informed I needed to update the eps. It cost $70 and my system software was updated. A month later I was driving again and the light came on. The power steering immediately locked u again. This is so dangerous. I was able to get stopped, turn the car off and back on. It reset it I guess cause it started working. I drove it to the dealer very slow and was told I need an eps control unit system and it would be around $867 with labor. I've noticed tons of other people have this same complaint and it should be a recall issue and fixed. It's very dangerous and someone is going to get killed.

6 Power Steering Light On problem of the 2006 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 12/07/2019

Im having the same issue that another recall on a similar model has recieved the DC-DC converter has a problem charging the 12v battery causing engine failure, power failure , stearing failure and abs failure. I am unable to turn on hazard lights because of it also battery will take u jump but will not keep the charge in the battery. I was driving home and on a flat street the car was losing all instrement lights the power stearing light came on as well as the battery light the abs light and the ims light. I had to force the wheel to turn to a safe location due to being unable to turn on any warning lights. I could have been hit by another vehicle. I was driving in city conditions. I brought my vehicle to the dealership and they say my VIN number does not match the recalled one.

10 Power Steering Light On problem of the 2012 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 04/08/2019

My 16 year old daughter was driving the car at 45 mph and the power steering system warning light came on and she lost steering control. She pulled over turned off the car and sat for 15 minutes. Then turned the car back on and it worked she drove the car for another 5 minutes and it did the same thing to her again. If she would have been in a curve when this happen she would not have been strong enough turn the car and an accident could have occured.

11 Power Steering Light On problem of the 2013 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 04/04/2019

My abs, vsa and power steering lights all came on at the same time. Honda dealer told me it costs $1,600 to οΏ½replaceοΏ½ abs control module which is obscene as this is clearly a safety issue, and he didn't even mention a fix for vsa or power steering. I tested a hard brake and abs failed. What if my power steering fails during a turn and I hit someone? Honda service tech said scans could not indicate a fix. Google / you tube search shows this is a chronic problem with Honda Civic and acords. A simple fuse may need to be replaced. I believe Honda needs to recall this defective fuse and replace them for vehicle owners free of charge before someone has an accident.

12 Power Steering Light On problem of the 2017 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 01/26/2019

The vehicle, after being driven the day prior without issues or any engine lights, will not start the next morning. The only engine light that is on is the electronic power steering light. When I try to start the car, the battery doesn't even click. I even jumped the battery to reinforce the idea that this is likely not related to the battery - still no clicking. After online research, I found that there was a recent recall on 2017 Honda Civics for the same issue - the eps system. Unfortunately, this recall is VIN specific, and when I called Honda to inquire about my vehicle, they told me that even though this sounds exactly like the other recalled Honda Civics, they were unable to do anything because my specific Civic was not being recalled for this matter. For a car that is less than 2 years old, with no accidents, something as significant as an eps failure should be handled more seriously. This kind of failure, if occurring during operation of the vehicle, could result in major auto accidents.

13 Power Steering Light On problem of the 2013 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 04/05/2018

I purchased a used 2013 Civic sedan from a private seller on March 23rd 2018. The day I bought it, as I was pulling out of the parking lot of the credit union where I met the seller the power steering failed. A yellow warning light that looks like a steering wheel with an exclamation point came on on the dash, and it was very difficult to steer the vehicle. I put it in park, hit the hazards and turned the vehicle off for fear of hitting someone. I contacted the sellers and they came back. We discussed having it towed to the shop, and the previous owner got in it, to re-park it somewhere more out of the way while we waited for aaa. At this time, the car started up fine, no warning light was present and he was able to safely drive it into a parking spot. He suggested that he just drive it to the shop, and I ride over there with his wife. So we did, and they hooked it up to the computer at the shop, and informed me that it didn't throw any codes, and that "the computer doesn't lie" they told me that since it drove over there fine, to just take it home, and don't worry about it. So I did, and I drove it around for a couple weeks until on the 5th of April, again pulling out of a parking space it happened again, yellow steering wheel light and all. Except this time the brakes failed too. Not only could I not steer, I could not stop. I ended up dragging the front end over a flowerbed with a curb, and ripping off the bumper. The car was under warranty and is now at a Honda dealership awaiting repairs pending processing of warranty paperwork. Thankfully nobody was hurt in either of these incidents, but it could've easily been different. These power steering failures are know to, and were investigated by the NHTSA in 2013. No recall was issued. I know that this has happened to other people. I believe that this is a serious safety issue and a recall should be reconsidered.

14 Power Steering Light On problem of the 2012 Honda Civic

Driving back home from work, check power steering light came on. Difficult to drive home. Next day I started my car, the check engine light is not displaying.

15 Power Steering Light On problem of the 2013 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 02/11/2018

Abs, traction control light, & power steering lights illuminated at the same time and can not be reset. The vehicle's traction control and abs systems are not engaged when these lights are present, thus causing a safety hazard. These lights first appeared while backing out of driveway on dry/sunny day. These lights have remained on since, and will not go off even after ecu reset.

16 Power Steering Light On problem of the 2012 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 01/28/2018

I was driving on highway yesterday with 2 of my toddler kids in my Honda. Suddenly the power steering light turned on and immediately the steering became extremely difficult to turn and like dead. I was very scared and try to slow down. But it is still very extreme difficult to turn. I turned on the double flashing light and slowed moved to the nearby gas station and asked my insurance to tow my car to dealer. I am 20weeks pregnant so I have 3 children in the car. The second day the dealer checked everything but told me they cannot find any problem with it. I found a lot of complaint filed online with 2012 Honda Civic and there is a recall with certain 2012 Honda Civic that was made late that year. I called Honda inc and checked my VIN, I was informed there is no recall on my car. I explained this is very similar to other cases they made recall on about the steering system and this is very likely due to their manufacture mistake as I have been driving this car without any issue in 5 years and no any accident or injury. They say there is nothing they can do. The car dealer also inform me there is nothing they can do but have me drive carefully and they told me this can happen again!!!. I am pregnant and have 2 little children I sent to school with daily. I cannot have this happen again in a tragic accident. !!!.

19 Power Steering Light On problem of the 2013 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 07/20/2015

I was driving 5 minutes away from my home around a 30 mile an hour gradual bend. I suddenly had no power steering losing control momentarily ,I slowed down immediately trying to regain control of the vehicle while just missing going into the woods and almost creating an accident behind me. The check power steering assembly lights were flashing on the information board . This is extremely dangerous and unacceptable . My wife and daughter drive the car often and I'm not too sure the outcome would have been as good as mine and this truly scares me. This is my 6th Honda ,I purchase all my car is new, and I've never have a problem like this before!.

20 Power Steering Light On problem of the 2012 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 03/14/2015

Was driving around 50 mph when the light changed changed to yellow, when I tried to put on brakes they were gone and the steering was gone also, I did see a error message that stated to check power steering I was able to turn the car into a parking lot instead of going through the light. I cut off the car and re-started the car and the message and the check steering light were gone. It was as if the car lost power. I put my VIN in Honda's web site to check for a recall and there were not any. This could cause fatal accidents.

22 Power Steering Light On problem of the 2006 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 04/11/2014

I had a car accident on the huntingdon side of pine groves mountain on PA 26 south. I drove a Honda Civic 06 lx. When I was going down the mountain, I applied the brake normally to slow down before a curve when the speed was at 60 mph, but my car was drifting, not like hydroplaning at all. There was no water to cause that but it rained five to six hours before the accident. During the whole course of incident, the steering wheel was not responsive. When it started to drift, it skidded towards the incoming lane. I tried to correct the steering wheel slightly, it took much more force to operate the steering wheel and the direction was not corrected, so I adjusted it more. Then the head suddenly turned 60 to 80 degrees and hit the guardrail and then the car turned more than 180 degrees clockwise; then the tail hit a stop-sign pole and the car stopped in the mud. Since the car was still drivable, I did not call the police to check the scene. I think it was caused by Honda's design defects since I had goodyear four-season tires with more than enough grids, so I want to hire an investigator to investigate my case and ask Honda to buy the car back. But none of the law firms I contacted could help me. During the whole course, there was no car coming in both directions. Two cars passed me by when I was pulling my car out of mud but none of them stopped, so I guess there was no witness. The first time when I applied the brake again after the incident, I felt the brake was flimsy, so I drove much slower later, at around 40 mph. I am not sure if the brake could handle that wet road again, but most of time at most places the brake does not fail, so I assume I experienced a case, on wet road with downhill gravity, that the car is incapable of handling.

What does check VSA system mean on a 2012 Honda Civic?

Among many other changes, Honda has gone to electric assist for the power steering, to save weight, fuel, hydraulic fluid, and maintenance. Electric power steering (EPS) inherently has less feedback and feel than does hydraulic-assist, and yes, the new Civic's steering is a bit numb.
