St. Augustine is surrounded by water from the Intracoastal and the bay, all the way to the ocean. So you’re certainly going to want to try our seafood! Where do the locals go when we want great seafood in St. Augustine? Read on for 10 of our favorite places along with some helpful tips from the innkeepers of Bayfront Marin house, the #1 rated waterfront hotel in St. Augustine! Show  Catch 2740 Charlotte Street | An easy walk from the Inn This little restaurant lives up to its name with a menu that’s largely from the sea. It originally opened up a few blocks away before moving to this new space in 2016. The local catch is always good, although my favorite is the deviled egg appetizer with bacon jam, topped with perfectly fried sweet oysters. Plus having an appetizer-sized meal leaves room for their homemade desserts! Innkeeper Tip: The dining room is a bit tight and you will know what your neighbors are eating (and perhaps some of what they’re saying as well!) but it’s clean and hip and has a cool new outdoor space. Cap’s on the Water4325 Myrtle Avenue | On Vilano Beach, 15 min drive from the Inn You need to drive to this waterfront favorite, but it’s well worth the trip. The decking, dock, and pavilion were completely rebuilt and the building was updated after hurricane Irma in 2017. Go early to catch the sunset over the Intracoastal Waterway, a favorite among both locals and tourists. When the sun goes down, the deck is lit with hundreds of little white lights, perfect for a romantic dinner. Lots of fresh fish specials and the tuna over fried spinach is awesome! Innkeeper Tip: They don’t take reservations, so I’d recommend waiting with a drink at the oyster bar. O’Steens205 Anastasia Blvd | On Anastasia Island, 5 min drive or 15 min walk from the Inn This local favorite has an hour-long wait even as early as 6:00 at night — a hint at its popularity. Fried shrimp, oysters, and a good Minorcan chowder are just some of their delicious dishes. Innkeeper Tip: No credit cards accepted so make sure to take cash, and perhaps a book or something else to occupy your time as the line really can be that long! Columbia98 St. George Street | An easy walk from the Inn True, it’s not known as a “seafood restaurant” but the Spanish must love fish because Columbia has easily some of our favorite seafood dinners. Great tapas, like the Gambas Al Ajillo (large shrimp in a spicy garlic sauce), and amazing entrees like the Grouper Adelita (fish with hearts of palm, artichoke hearts, and sun-dried tomatoes), and Snapper Bilboa (fish cooked in a clay dish with tomatoes, onions, and peppers) put this restaurant on our list of seafood faves! Hurricane Patty’s69 Lewis Avenue | 10 min drive from the Inn A local favorite restaurant and bar off Route 1 and recently bought by the company that owns Pusser’s in Ponte Vedra. They have one of our favorite Minorcan chowders, a fresh raw bar, and Caribbean fish dishes accented with pineapple or mango chutneys. Plus, plenty of great rum drinks, in case you’re interested in drinking like a fish as well as eating one. Saltwater Cowboy’s299 Dondanville Rd | 15 min drive from the Inn Did somebody say shrimp? Saltwater Cowboy’s has you covered, with coconut shrimp, stuffed shrimp, shrimp and scampi, shrimp and grits, and a simple dish called shrimp Dondanville (with garlic butter, vermouth, and scallions). Plus soft crabs, crab cakes, oysters, clam strips, and fish. Innkeeper Tip: They take call ahead seating up to one hour before so be sure to let them know when you will be arriving. Fish Camp142 Riberia Street | 5 minute drive or short trolley ride from the Inn (the trolley only runs during the day–so plan on lunch!) There is so much water in St. Augustine, and the Fish Camp takes advantage of the marshland known as “The Marina District”. Casual indoor/outdoor space that features lots of fresh seafood, and interesting dishes. Try the grilled octopus and white bean salad as an appetizer, or share the fresh smoked fish dip. They also serve a whole fish that’s crispy yet still light. Innkeeper Tip: The St. Augustine Fish Camp is the only restaurant in town that features a low country boil on the menu. It serves two, so talk to your significant other about splitting it with you! The Floridian172 Spanish Street | An easy walk from the Inn If you’re looking for shrimp and grits like your momma used to make, the Floridian might not be your jive. But if you’re looking for a delicious, modern, and creative take on the southern staple, pull up a chair. Picture gently seared grit cakes, cut on the diagonal, with perfect pink shrimp on top. Or mix it up and get it with the fresh catch. Served with seasonal salsa and herbed feta. Casa Reina1 Anderson Circle | An easy walk from the Inn Brand new in 2022, Casa Reina has fast become one of our favorite bayfront restaurants. It’s a beautiful historic building, renovated to perfection, and full of comfy seating outside and interesting levels inside. It also has a seafood heavy menu–try the honey lime glazed salmon (with amazing Mexican corn sprinkled on top) and the tequila lime grouper. Because you can’t come to Florida, without enjoying some great grouper. Innkeeper Tip: Grab drinks on their outside deck and enjoy an amazing St. Augustine sunset. The Reef4100 Coastal Highway | On Vilano Beach, 12 min drive from the Inn, but less than 5 from the cottages If you want to eat with a spectacular view of the ocean, put the Reef on your list! Kate’s got its start in 1990 when Catherine and Frank Usina began serving meals to Henry Flagler’s employees that moved building materials back and forth on the Intracoastal. The shrimp and grits at Aunt Kate’s have an old-fashioned, front porch feel with lots of messy gravy smothering the dish. Add a great view, a dash of the restaurant’s homemade datil pepper sauce, and the casual picnic tables, and it’s a great place to sit around and feel the southern vibes.
