What oil can I use in my vacuum pump?Rotary vane vacuum pumps normally utilize an ISO 68 (SAE 20) or ISO 100 (SAE 30) oil. Process pumps and other vacuum pumps driven by a gearbox will require a much more viscous oil, such as an ISO 220 (SAE 50).
Does vacuum pump oil have a shelf life?Vmaxol and Duratex brand vacuum pump oils have an indefinite shelf life under the right conditions. As long as the container has not been opened or left outside, there should not be a reason for the lubricant to deteriorate.
How does a vacuum pump works?A vacuum pump's main function is to change the pressure in a contained space to create a full or partial vacuum either mechanically or chemically. Pressure will always try to equalize across connected regions as gas molecules flow from high to low to fill the entire area of that volume.
