Apple Pay lets customers pay easily and securely through your online store. Apple Pay offers an accelerated checkout process. When a customer pays for their order using Apple Pay, they don't need to manually enter their credit card information or shipping address. The customer taps the Apple Pay button and scans their fingerprint, and Apple Pay provides that information to the payment provider. You don't pay any extra fees for accepting Apple Pay. You continue to pay the normal processing fees associated with your payment provider. Learn more about accelerated checkouts. NoteApple Pay support for subscription products is available only for merchants using Shopify Payments located in the United States, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand, and where the customer is paying with a Mastercard or Visa card. RequirementsTo enable the Apple Pay button for your online store, you must meet the following requirements:
Apple Pay isn't available to merchants located in France who use Shopify Payments. NoteApple Pay support for subscription is available only for merchants using Shopify Payments located in the United States, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand, and where the customer is paying with a Mastercard or Visa card. Devices that support Apple PayTo access the Apple Pay button, your customers must use one of the following devices:
Activate Apple Pay
Your customers can now use Apple Pay to check out on your store. Customer experienceWhen a customer visits your online store using a device that supports Apple Pay, a button with the Apple Pay logo appears. The customer can tap or click the button to make a purchase with Apple Pay. After they do, the shipping and billing information that they added to their wallet appears, as well as the cost of the order, shipping rates, and taxes. The customer then has to authenticate the purchase. The authentication process is slightly different depending on the device the customer is using: On an iPhone or iPadA prompt appears on the device, telling them to confirm the purchase by using the Touch ID on their device. The customer scans their fingerprint on the device's Touch ID to authenticate the purchase. On a Macbook with Touch IDA prompt appears on the customer's Touch Bar, telling them to confirm the purchase by using the Touch ID on their Macbook. The customer scans their fingerprint on the Touch ID to authenticate the purchase. On a Mac without Touch IDIf the customer doesn't have Touch ID, then they can use Apple Pay on their Mac computer with another device, like an iPhone, iPad, or an Apple Watch. To verify connectivity, the customer must make sure the device and computer meet the following setup requirements:
A dialog appears on the customer's computer, telling them to confirm the purchase by using the Touch ID on their other device. The customer scans their fingerprint on their device to authenticate the purchase. TroubleshootingApple Pay not showing in the adminIf you are using Cybersource, Authorize.net, or First Data Payeezy, and you don't see the option to activate Apple Pay in the admin, then you need to ask your payment processor to turn on network tokenization. If you're using Stripe, then make sure you have accepted the Terms of Service specific to Apple Pay from your Stripe dashboard. If you're not sure who your payment processor is, then you should talk to your bank, or to your merchant account provider. Apple Pay button not showing in checkoutIf the Apple Pay button doesn't appear in your checkout, then make sure you meet all the requirements for using Apple Pay. If your customer is using the Buy Button to to pay for their order, then Apple Pay will not be offered because it's not supported by that sales channel. Apple Pay button not showing in cart drawerIf you have a cart drawer or a cart pop-up on your store, then the Apple Pay button might not appear. You can add Javascript to your theme to make sure that the button appears in your cart drawer. Apple Pay button visible but not responsiveIf you're using a supported Apple laptop, then check the Apple Pay wallet on your device and make sure that the lid of your laptop is open. If your laptop is in closed-display mode, then the Apple Pay button might be unresponsive. Customer can't enter a discount codeYour customers can use discount codes with Apple Pay only if they enter a discount code on the checkout page before clicking the Apple Pay button. If you show the Apple Pay button on the cart page, then your customers can't go to the checkout page to enter a discount code. To make sure your customers can use discount codes with Apple Pay, you need to show the Apple Pay button on the checkout page. Error when checking out with Apple Pay on a MacIf you receive an error message after trying to check out with Apple Pay on a Mac, then there might be a communication problem between your phone and your computer. To verify connectivity, the customer must make sure the phone and the computer meet the following setup requirements:
Shipping limitationsDue to partial postal code availability from Apple Pay, carrier-calculated shipping rates in certain remote regions of Canada might be calculated incorrectly. Most Canadian addresses are not affected by this issue. Other ways to accept Apple PayApple Pay in personApple Pay is available in person if you use Shopify POS in Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom. With the Tap & Chip reader or the Chipper 2X BT card reader, you can offer your customers the option of paying with Apple Pay using an iPhone or an Apple Watch. The payment is processed right away, and the customer doesn't have to produce their credit card, or enter their payment details using the keyboard of their iOS device. NoteIf a customer makes an in-person order over a certain amount, then they might not be able to use Apple Pay to pay for the order. Apple has more information about limits when using Apple Pay in person. Apple Pay CashApple Pay Cash is available if your business is located in the United States and Discover is enabled in your payment settings. You can offer your customers the option of paying with their Apply Pay Cash card using an iPhone or an Apple Watch. If you are located outside of the United States, then consult with your payment provider to check whether they support Discover. NoteWhen using the Tap & Chip reader or the Chipper 2X BT card reader, Shopify POS supports Apple Pay Cash. Apple Pay in mobile appsApple Pay is available if your store has an iOS app using the iOS Buy SDK. FAQWhat credit cards can my customers use with Apple Pay?The credit card payment provider you use determines which credit cards your customers can use when they buy your products using Apple Pay. To use Apple Pay, your customers have to add their credit card information to their Apple Pay wallet. If the payment provider you use doesn't accept the type of credit card a customer adds to their Apple Pay wallet, then that customer is not able to buy your products using Apple Pay. What does an Apple Pay order look like?To use Apple Pay, your payment processor must support network tokenization. As a result, you don't see the last four digits of the customer's credit card number in an order's payment details. Instead you see the last four digits of the customer's Apple Pay device account number. Can I use Apple Pay to purchase online?You can spend it however you like in stores, online, and in apps with Apple Pay. Apple Pay enables you to make secure, contactless purchases using Apple Cash, Apple Card, and any other credit and debit cards that you add to Wallet.
Why can't I use my Apple Pay online?If you're still unable to use Apple pay, you should try restarting your iPhone. This resets your phone's memory and clears temporary caches, which can solve temporary glitches with Apple Pay and other system software.
Can I use Apple Pay on Amazon?Apple Pay is compatible with most Amazon Payment Services products and features, allowing you to use it in place of a traditional card payment whenever possible. Use it to accept payments for physical or digital goods; donations, subscriptions, and more.
