Fruits basket season 2 episode 7 english

After my move 14.000 km across the world I am back with my Episode 7 review, which will be followed swiftly by reviews for all episodes of Fruits Basket I am behind on so far. Sorry if anybody has been waiting for these. I promise to try to catch up! This episode was a bit scary, since Tohru was invited over to meet Hatori, who has the ability to delete one’s memories. But Tohru bravely goes out to meet him. To be honest, this whole episode is all about Hatori. So let’s see what we found out about him!

Japanese Title: 春になりますね (Haru ni narimasu)

Episode 7 – Spring Comes

Tohru was invited over to meet Hatori at the main house of the Soma’s. When he invited her over, he told her to come alone and not tell anybody, which sounded very threatening, so she is very nervous. On her way into the house she meets Momiji, which eases the situation a bit. When Hatori talks to her, Momiji is always next to her and he tells her more about the curse of the family and the family in general. When he is suddenly called away, Momiji tells her Hatori’s story and how he lost the love of his life. In the end, Shigure appears to bring her back home.

Highlights

Hatori’s kindness

He sounds scary, but I love how kind he is to others and absolutely harsh on himself. We can see his kindness when he talks about Akito and doesn’t blame anybody but himself for what happened with Kana. Or how he treats the family. His little banters with Shigure. How he reacts when he turns into a seahorse. Hatori is kindness, no matter how hard he tries to hide it.

Hatori’s past

Of course, his past was the main highlight of the episode. Hatori and his sad love story and why he takes care of everybody so well. The drama behind what happened and how it changed him…

Hatori’s BFF

No matter how heavy one episode is, there is also always light. In this episode it’s not only Tohru with her compassionate feelings but also Shigure. Turns out the two are the best of friends and can totally be shipped in terms of bromance. I love their interaction, because Hatori is always pushing Shigure away but Shigure doesn’t care and keeps going towards Hatori. Their names for each other… Haa-san and Shii-chan. I also like that we only see them joking in front of others but they clearly also have very serious talks with each other and I like to imagine them talking serious business.

Momiji Protects

As he is my favorite character, I love that Momiji was there as some kind of protector or at least security that nothing would happen to Tohru. My favorite moment was when he asked if she was also happy to meet him when she said she was happy to have met Yuki, Kyo and Shigure. He is such a precious little boy.

Comments

Seahorse as Dragon

There is our dragon! To be honest, I was sad when I saw the seahorse because having dragons in stories is always a great thing and I was looking forward to see how cute the mangaka would make the dragon – since the pig and cat and rat and everybody was cute as well. But then there was the seahorse and I was a tiny bit disappointed until I thought about it and got used to it. The background behind it being a seahorse also makes sense. It is said that all dragons start out as seahorses but only some of them can become full dragons.

Dokidoki Barometer

If the winner isn’t clearly Hatori, then I don’t know! With this story and dedication and determination to have the love of his life lead a happy rather than a cursed life… Always having the chance to meet her again, but then deciding to set her free… He nearly makes me cry. I am glad he has at least Shii-chan at his side, since he probably will never fall in love again. So the point this episode clearly goes to him.

… though I do want to remark that in my heart Momiji is always the winner. This episode as well, how he stayed next to Tohru and how sad he looked when Hatori talked about the curse and Akito. He squeezes my heart in all the right ways.

Fruits Basket

Spring 2019 | Anime Info | Original Series Review

This season is really starting to pick up, and its only half way through the first cour. Gotta say, I didn't expect akito to hate momiji, i thought the only one they hated was kyo, since hes the cat. It's weird that they wouldn't like one of the main zodiac members.

I don't know which ship in ready to jump on here, they're both good choices. Kyo and tohru have such a relaxed, comfortable friendship that was almost impossible to imagine at the beginning of the story.

And then there's yuki. He's really cared for tohru for a long time now, and for good reason. She, unwittingly, was the first person to show yuki that he was needed. I always assumed the hat originally belonged to him, with it being blue and all.

The plot just keeps thickening, and i honestly have no idea where its going from here, but i hope tohru ends up confronting akito by the end of the arc.
