Galaxy watch 4 vs fitbit sense reddit

I used a Versa and blaze in the past. I'd been using Android watches because the "smart" aspects of Fitbits were not very developed. But over time I've done to miss the fitness/health tracking aspects of Fitbit. I was hoping with the migration of sanding watches from Tizen to Android things would meaningfully improve, but not much has improved.

Seeing Fitbit improve features and "smart" aspects with products like the Sense have re-invigorated my interest so I picked up the Sense recently. I had some thoughts and questions.

  1. How many folks like the watch band style where the extra length tucks under the band? I hate it, and ordered an alternative

  2. The included charging cable is comedically short

  3. Love having Google assistant on the Sense, as a household that uses Google/Nest smart devices and Android phones

  4. Disappointed you can't take manual SpO2 measurements (unless I'm missing something?)--can do this with the latest Android watches I had; also disappointed in the way you are shown SpO2 info from sleep--you are given variation, but would love to see actual values

  5. Is the Fitbit premium plan worth it? What do you get that is useful for a "casually interested in overall health, wellness, and exercise, but not obsessed" perspective. $80/year feels like a lot to pay

  6. The watch face store is still a dumpster fire

  7. Being able to take ECG readings is nice although I don't have a condition that necessitates it , but at the same time it sucks to have to export a report to see the trace data (example, with the Galaxy watch 4 you can view the data on the companion app as soon as the reading is done)

  8. I remember being able to manually record blood pressure in the Fitbit app. This would be great to have back for a centralized tracking system

  9. I remember being able to drag along the heart rate trace in a workout and get actual values, but now it appears to be a static graph

  10. I really don't like the pressure-sensitive 'button' on the Sense; often enough it doesn't recognize the correct interaction (press, long-hold), whereas the physical button on my Versa was always consistent

I can't say that the Sense is Earth-shattering compared to the Versa I used, but so far the Sense feels solid and responsive. I honestly don't think it does any teaching any better than the Versa (bringing ECG is the only difference. I am disappointed that certain things are still a bit limited in terms of the smart watch aspects; I wish that you could reply to any notification rather than a limited set of apps; for example, I use Discord and Google voice for messaging, and you cannot see either of these as the messaging app in the Fitbit settings (but Hangouts is still listed in the available messaging apps despite).

It's not a bad watch for $199 that I recently picked it up for, but I would never consider paying the $299 msrp, especially when there is also a subscription model for your data and insights.

Hi all! First post here.

I'm a long-time Fitbit user, but I've been having issues with my new Versa 3. I find that its vibration motor is incredibly weak, and I can hardly tell when I get notifications, and it can't wake me up with silent alarms. I'm not extremely athletic, so I hardly use it for its intended fitness tracker function, so I've been thinking about taking it back and looking into other options.

What are Galaxy Watches like? Do they have silent alarms, and if so, do they have a smart wake function similar to the Fitbit? (Senses sleep stages in order to buzz you awake when you're in lighter sleep). What else can you do with them? What would be the best bang for your buck watch to get? Do any of them have heartrate tracking?

Thanks!

My last Fitbit Versa finally died. I say finally but honestly Fitbit devices have awful durability and in ~7 years I've gone through approximately 20 Fitbit devices. So I decided to take the leap to a 44mm Galaxy Watch 4. Here are my thoughts:

The Bad (really just nitpicks)

  • I am a Pixel user so I had to do some funky workarounds to get ECG and blood pressure to work.

  • I am a Pixel user so I also had to install a bunch of Samsung shit and register Samsung accounts to get full functionality, and personally I get confused about which phone app to look for data. Is it in Samsung Wear? Samsung Health? Samsung Health Monitor?

  • No "OK Google" out of the box or easy way to access that function. I'm not even sure how to make it happen in a more hacky way. I will not be using Bixby.

  • Has to charge more often than a Fitbit device, every day or every other day for me.

  • Full charging takes ~2 hours, which seems excessively long for something you are supposed to be wearing constantly.

  • Kind of a pain in the ass to find new decent watch faces.

  • Occasionally loses connection with my phone, but I only notice this when I'm trying to do something stupid like search in Maps on the watch, which has no real purpose.

  • What the hell is with the Timer app only letting you choose from pre-selected times?

The Good

  • The OS is MILES faster and more responsive than either Fitbit OS or the last time I used Android Wear (which was an LG watch years ago).

  • All of the sensors seem to be reasonably accurate. Blood pressure, ECG, heart rate, blood oxygen, sleep, steps, compass, body mass. I'm honestly stunned that they can sense all that shit in this watch. I don't have issues with inaccurate sleep tracking.

  • Fit and finish is amazing. The matte side panels look great and nothing is fingerprinty.

  • The screen is bright, very sharp, and it very responsively turns on when you raise your wrist. I'm used to doing a wrist double take for Fitbit and I don't have to do that often with this one.

  • Dramatically better integration with Android apps than a Fitbit. If I start playing music or navigating on my phone, there's always an easy shortcut to access it on my watch.

Overall, very happy with my purchase. This thing rocks. Clunky, sure, but it is exactly what I wanted.
