Anyone have a sonata with 150k, or 200k+ miles on it yet? I'm looking to buy an 06 sonata 4 cylinder, it's got 160k miles on it, and if I get it, I want to know if I should worry about replacing the transmission soon, or the motor, since it's got so many miles on it. I drove it and it seems pretty solid, but I've never had a Hyundai so I don't know how many miles you could get out of one.

Are you buying this from a salesman? 30k plus miles a year is quite a lot. I guess the good news is that a lot of those miles are probably highway miles which are much easier on a car than stop and go city miles.

So have you had to do any major maintenance? Any transmission or engine problems? Any other problems? Like I said, when I test drove the car it seemed pretty solid, but I want to make sure I know if I'm going to need to do any major repairs soon. It's cheap enough though, that it might be worth it for me to buy it even if I do have to replace the transmission or motor

It's a local salesman, pretty small outfit. I figure the only way they could get that many miles on it if it were highway miles, so that makes me think it might still be ok.

Had customer a few yr back that had 150 on his in no time,, he worked for Cargill and was on the road all the time visiting various dairy farms in our multi state region here.. want to say it was a 2006 w/ 4cyl automatic.

It will come down how loyal you are about simple oil/coolant/atf changes, and other routine maintain.

As of this morning, I have just under 207,000 miles on my '06 Sonata 2.4L. It's my daily driver (125 miles round trip each day) and I expect to be driving it for a long time yet. Other than body work after hitting a deer - and two months later more body work after having another deer run into the side of me - I haven't had to do any significant mechanical repairs to the car. I haven't had to do anything other than routine maintenance to either the engine or drivetrain. In fact, besides the deer repairs the only non-routine maintenance I can recall is having to replace a switch for the manual shifting mode, which stopped working. The switch wasn't in the transmission, but near the bottom of the shifter itself. Simple repair, but it cost a couple hundred bucks to have done. This car has definitely given me much bang for the buck. I'm still getting 30mpg city/hwy combined, and 31-32 highway depending on how much lead is in my foot. I use synthetic oil and Napa Gold filters. I change the oil every 5,000 miles.

BTW, mine just became a 4-Hyundai family. My oldest son has (my old) 2001 Elantra with nearly 180,000 miles on it, my youngest son has a 2004 Elantra with around 65,000 miles on it, I have my Sonata, and my wife is the proud owner of a 2011 Santa Fe Limited we bought less than a month ago. For me Hyundais are incredibly reliable and economical. As long as they stay that way I will be buying Hyundais for a long time.

Paint this image on both sides of you Sonata. The deers will wait for you to disappear into the horizon before crossing the road. I promise.

Otherwise, good reading your post, WE LIKE POSTERS LIKE YOU !

What color is your Sonata? It must be the Aqua Blue color. The deer must be thirsty!

Probably safe for another 100,000 M. check though that it was not a Rental originally ot that there is anything wrong with that as they tend to be serviced well.

I would definitely prefer to buy a car with such high miles from its original owner, rather than from a rental car company, or with rental in its history... It's enough for one rental driver to really abuse the car (which he probably wouldn't do to HIS car) -- to shorten it's life..... And how well do rental agencies service their cars -- really depends on the individual rental agency... Many years ago I rented a car from Hertz in Salt Lake City that was assigned to me with NO OIL in the engine... Luckily it was a big Chevy, and luckily I checked the oil and filled it up soon after getting the car (driving into the desert with very few gas stations along the way), so I didn't get stuck with a ruined engine in the middle of nowhere. Back at Hertz I told the agent about it, got no apology just a reimbursement for the oil, as if it was a routine....

I might have to give the tiger decals a try. I really can't complain too much I guess. Prior to my two incidents in 2001, my last run-in with a deer was in 1994. That was over 500,000 miles ago. I guess I was due.

My car is just plain old silver, so I don't think the deer were drawn to its awesome color... Three of my four Hyundais are silver. I like light colored vehicles because they don't show dirt as readily as darker colors. It's just a coincidence that I have so many silver ones. As long as a vehicle has the features I want I'll take pretty much any light color. I got such screaming hot deals on my Sonata and Santa Fe that I just HAD to buy them... B)

Wait, your Sonata is an '06, so the 2 incidents with the deers couldn't have happened in 2001..... :innocent: :innocent: :innocent:

i have a 2010 and i bought it with 20,000 on it and its at 50,000 now. I change the oil regularly and the only problem i have had is the front struts are gone already found that out when i lowered it. and the front wheel bearing went out at 22,000 miles.(just a random thing that could happen on any newer car)
