This guide will walk you through the setup process for controlling your Amazon Fire TV Stick without its remote by using the Fire TV app, a secondary mobile device, and a custom Wi-Fi hotspot. You’ll also find a variety of alternative solutions plus some basic information on using the new setup to connect to the hotel Wi-Fi eventually.

How Do I Connect My Fire Stick to Hotel Wi-Fi Without Remote?

Here's what you need to do to connect to your Amazon Fire TV Stick in your hotel room when you’ve forgotten or misplaced its remote.

1. Download and install the Fire TV app onto an iPhone or iPad or an Android smartphone or tablet.

   The Fire TV app is a completely separate app than the Amazon Prime Video app.

2. Connect your secondary device to the hotel Wi-Fi network. You can use a Windows or Mac laptop, an iPhone or iPad, or an Android tablet or smartphone.

   You can’t use the same device that has the Fire TV app installed on it.

3. Now, use your secondary device to create a Wi-Fi hotspot. You can use your laptop, smartphone, or tablet to share your internet connection with nearby devices. You can create mobile hotspots on Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS devices.

5. Connect the smart device with the Fire TV app on it to the newly renamed hotspot.

6. Open the Fire TV app. If you've previously connected the Fire TV app and this device to your Fire Stick, you can jump to Step 10. If this is the first time using the Fire TV app, select your Fire Stick from the list of devices.

7. Your Fire Stick should show a four digit code on your hotel room's TV.

8. Enter this code into the Fire TV app on your smart device.

9. You should now be able to use the arrow keys in the Fire TV app to navigate your Fire TV Stick.

14. On your secondary device, turn off the Wi-Fi hotspot feature.

How Can I Use Fire Stick Without Remotes or Secondary Devices?

If you don’t have a remote or a secondary device to create a mobile hotspot, you still have some other options for controlling your Amazon Fire TV Stick.

• Borrow a device from someone else. As mentioned above, you can always ask a staff member or another hotel guest to help you with their smartphone or tablet.
• Try the hotel room TV’s remote control. Some remote controls with HDMI-CEC support can control Amazon Fire Sticks and other modern devices. Use the arrow buttons on your room’s remote and see if it affects your Fire Stick. If it doesn’t, you may be able to buy a cheap remote with this functionality at a nearby store.
