You will need to pull up hard on it, or pry it up with a belt or strap pulling it up from the agitator bottom base. Some are a nightmare to get off.

Here's the agitator for your model:

Good job getting the agitator off.

I have changed many of these same tub seals, when the trunnion is that bad looking there's a good chance the trunnion bolts will break off when you remove them, happened to me many times.

Here's the trunnion for your model:

Here's the trunnion bolts for your model(It takes 2 trunnion bolts, so even if one breaks, its best to order both):

Let us know how it goes.

I have seen plenty of youtube videos on how to release the agitator from rest of washing machine. Seems easy.

However, for my FEX831FS4 washer the bolt is kinda surrounded by the agitator's plastic housing and the only way I may be able to unscrew that nut would be with a very deep, thin walled socket. Wrench does not bite the nut enough and regular socket can't get on top of nut because the protruding thread is very high. See this picture to understand what I mean

This has made me wondering If I am doing things the right way to fix the broken agitator? Wanted to hear from someone who has worked on washers before whether

  1. I need to start disassembly from bottom for this washer and not top to release the agitator?
  2. When the agitator got broken perhaps it was pushed upwards (or downwards) over bolt and I now simply need to use some force?
  3. I simply need a special, deep socket with thin walls to unscrew that nut?

Any thoughts? Here is parts schematics. If I understand correctly then last picture of transmission shows that bolt. But then it seems that the plastic agitator should simply come after unscrewing the plastic cap without having me to unscrew this bolt. Which does not seem to be the case.

I've not worked on this specific model, but with a similar one I recall that the agitator just pulls off once you remove the cap.

They get gummed up with detergent residue so it takes some force to get it started.

Our clothes come out with lint on them frequently. I’ve looked, but can’t find a serviceable filter for the washer. My next step was to lift the agitator and see what’s under there, but I can’t for the life of me figure out how to remove it.

There's nothing under there that will produce lint, and if you manage to pull off the agitator, you'll be in for at least a new agitator and possibly a new gearcase.

Once the bolt is removed, as others have said, it's just a question of pulling really hard or cutting the agitator off, but when you're done you'll be disappointed because there's nothing under it but the inner tub.

There used to be a thing called an "agitamer". It was a "C" shaped rubber bladder that you clipped under hte agitator and connected to a faucet. The agitator would absolutely come off but if you weren't careful, it would drive it right through your face, which is probably why they don't sell it anymore. 8-)

How do you clean a Frigidaire stackable washer?

Dip a rag or paper towel into a vessel of mild detergent and warm water. Wipe down the top, sides and front of the washer to remove caked on detergent, dust and dirt. Dry the surfaces off with a clean rag or paper towel.
