Bottom LineLa Siesta Resort and Marina is a waterfront hotel with a stellar location on the ocean, access to water sports, and a spacious pool deck with a tropical vibe. However, the majority of the hotel's 52 rooms are unimpressive, outdated, and more expensive than other nearby properties with the same location and amenities. A major complaint among guests who have stayed here is spotty housekeeping. Show
See More Bottom Line SceneGreat location, but outdated rooms and high pricesLa Siesta Resort and Marina is located on Islamorada, which is one of the quieter islands in the middle of the Florida Keys. Hidden from the Overseas Highway, the hotel is tucked away among tropical foliage and located directly on the ocean, with its own private beach (a unique feature, since most hotels in the Middle Keys don’t have beaches). The spacious pool deck has a relaxing, tropical vibe with hanging hammocks and panoramic ocean views. Situated in its own peach-colored building, the lobby (called the “office”) is not what you would expect from a property that calls itself a resort. It is tiny and has tile floors with a check-in desk in the corner, and various items for sale like ice cream, post cards, hats, and wine. Rooms are scattered across the property in separate buildings, and some are nicer than others with ocean views and somewhat updated furniture, but most are unimpressive. The high prices, outdated rooms, and inconsistent housekeeping at La Siesta Resort and Marina often leave guests unsatisfied with their stay. A better nearby choice is The Islamorada Resort -- it also has outdated rooms, but features a comparable oceanfront location for much lower rates. See More Scene LocationLocated within driving distance of tourist attractions that include the Theater of the Sea, Robbie's, and the LoreleiThe hotel is situated at mile marker 80.2 in Islamorada, which is located halfway between Miami and Key West. It is difficult to get around the Middle Keys without a car, so most travelers rent one. With that said, it’s much easier to drive to nearby hotspots rather than walk to them. The Theater of the Sea, which offers wildlife shows and opportunities to swim with dolphins, is located around four miles away. Robbie’s, located about three miles away on the next key, is a tourist hotspot where travelers feed giant tarpon and can get a quick bite to eat for lunch. The Lorelei Restaurant & Cabana bar, a waterfront restaurant known for its key lime pie, is located approximately two miles northeast of the hotel. See More Location RoomsUnimpressive rooms and spotty housekeeping serviceA far cry from a true resort, the majority of the rooms at this hotel are tired. The cheesy decor includes carpets designed to look like wood floors and mismatched furnishings seemingly straight from the 1980s. The old tube TVs in some rooms add to the dated feel. Even upgrading to a room with a kitchen is not much of a plus, as the appliances they offer (including refrigerators, stoves, and microwave) are aging. Other signs of wear and tear include dingy showerheads in some bathrooms. There are a few rooms that have been updated (like the website shows), but that is not the case for many of the rooms. The hotel has a problem with consistent housekeeping, as many guests have complained about cleanliness. The rates are high for what travelers get and the best part of the resort is the pool deck and location -- not the rooms. See More Rooms FeaturesOceanfront pool deck and beach access with water sports availableLa Siesta Resort and Marina is one of the few hotels with an actual beach (versus a man-made sand area). The beach is tiny, but provides guests with access to swimming, kayaking, and paddleboarding. Additionally, the hotel offers waverunner rentals, as well as boating, diving, and fishing excursions. The best features include the hammocks swung between palm trees and a manicured pool deck that overlooks the water. The property lacks a restaurant and though it serves a free breakfast daily, the selection is basic (think coffee, juice, and pre-packaged bread items such as muffins). Other freebies include parking and Wi-Fi. The hotel charges a mandatory resort fee. See More Features Things You Should Know About La Siesta Resort & MarinaAlso Known As

8.1 GreatBased on 597 verified guest reviews 8.2Families 7.8Couples 8.2Friends 7.5Solo Pros + Cons - Time of Year: Mar-MayJun-AugSep-NovDec-Feb Sort by: Pros:The grounds were well kept. Beautiful views. Private beach area and nice pool. Rooms are updated and very spacious. We were there for a wedding around sunset and it was great! Cons:Unfortunately we were there when the seaweed was infesting the shoreline which took away from the beauty. It also smelled terrible. But that was not the resort’s fault. Just timing. Pros:This hotel is conveniently located to shops, restaurants, and activities. There is a nice pool, kayak and water activity rentals on-site, beach lounging area, and outdoor games for kids and adults. Great location and newly renovated rooms were very nice and clean. The breakfast provided each morning was very convenient as well. Cons:The bar/restaurant at the pool was very nice but it closes at 5:00. It would have been nice if it was open as late as the pool is open, especially to order a burger or something for dinner and eat at the pool instead of having to leave the hotel. Not a deal breaker by any means as we had a great experience there, but just a suggestion. Pros:I enjoyed the location and appreciated the size of our room, almost a a one bedroom apartment. Cons:We didn't like that you could hear every footstep and door slam from our neighbors. Pros:Awesome location, beautiful grounds, and an amazing beach front. Rooms were modern despite an older feel to the resort. Cons:Construction at the time of visit. They cut through a sewer line near my room and it was stanky. Was a minor annoyance and did not detract from my trip. But you may want to check and make sure the constuction has been completed. Pros:Would highly recommend. Service was excellent. Room was comfy and nice. Pros:The pool was beautiful and is heated! The views were amazing. Cons:At the time we stayed there was no wifi. There were tiny gnats crawling around the bathroom sink every day. The window hinge was broken so that the window would not close; however this was fixed immediately by the staff by screwing the window permanently shut. There was a coffee pot with supplies to make coffee, but no cups provided. Pros:The place they moved us to was ok for the time we had it was near the dive shop and good restaurants still would have like to stay where we planned on staying. The staff was nice and rooms clean Cons:Check in was not tell after 4pm check out was by 11am even though we could stay and use beach after checking out it seemed rushed maybe next time we can stay longer and at the main resort. Pros:I loved the view and the size of the rooms however they were dated. Cons:There is nowhere to even buy a bottle of water on the resort. Needs a tiki bar and at least a snack bar.. Or soda machine! Pros:We have been coming here for about 6 years now for lobster mini season, accommodations are perfect for us.... Cons:It would be awesome if the marina could comfortably accommodate midsize boats, I'm talking about 24' to 30' range... my dredging out some of the slips and channel. But I also understand that there are environmental red tape and hefty fees to make that happen down in the keys... Pros:one bedroom with full kitchen Cons:sofa bed was broken and housekeeping said oh well sorry...and did nothing for fix...stay away from room 118 80241 Overseas Highway, Islamorada, FL 33036
