August is the month that Game of Thrones fans have been waiting House of the Dragon will finally premiere on HBO Max. House of the Dragon takes place 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and the series will tell the story of House Targaryen at the height of its power alongside its dragons.

As if that wasn't enough for fans, HBO has also released all of Game of Thrones' episodes in 4K Ultra HD, which should make the vieweing experience even more worthy of the Iron Throne.

August is a big month for movies on HBO Max, as Belfast, Whiplash, Ex Machina, Belle: The Dragon and the Freckled Princess, and many more will be joining the service before the month comes to an end. Oh, and if you can't wait for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug will join HBO Max on August 25 to help with the wait.

Hard Knocks is also returning, this time with the Detroit Lions, to give fans an unprecedented behind-the-scenes look at how an NFL training camp is run. Alongside Industry coming back for a second season, DC fans will be treated to the short Constantine - The House of Mystery on August 1.

Is Lord of the Rings on HBO Max in 4K? Unfortunately, as of 2022, The Lord of the Rings isn't available for streaming in 4K on HBO Max. On HBO Max, all films can be watched in their Extended Editions, which have two extra hours on the theatrical version.
