Question 180537: Multiply:
(2x - 1)(2x2 - 3x + 2)

Answer by bandgeek1749(3)
Multiply 2x 2 3x 3x 2 2x 1

Multiply 2x 2 3x 3x 2 2x 1

Multiply 2x 2 3x 3x 2 2x 1

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
(2x - 1)(2x2 - 3x + 2)
FOIL: first, outer, inner, last
first distrubute 2x:
2x X 2x2= 4x2
2x X -3x=-6x2
2x X 2= 4x
so this gives you equation 1: 4x2-6x2+4x
then you do the -1
-1 X 2x2= -2x2
-1 X -3x= 3x
-1 X 2= -2
so this gives you equation #2: -2x2 + 3x -2
you put the two equations together: 4x2-6x2+4x-2x2+3x-2
you add common terms so that gives you
-4x2-2x-2 as your answer :)

#=color(green)(6x^3+5x^2-4x+3#

Explanation:

#color(blue)((2x+3))(3x^2−2x+1)#

Here, we need to multiply each term within the first bracket with all three terms of the second bracket.

#=color(blue)((2x))(3x^2−2x+1)+color(blue)((3))(3x^2−2x+1)#

#=6x^3−4x^2+2x+9x^2−6x+3#

Grouping like terms

#=6x^3+9x^2−4x^2+2x−6x+3#

#=6x^3+5x^2-4x+3#

ANSWER:

(i) (3x^2-2x-1)\ by\ (2x^2+x-5)

= (3x^2-2x-1)(2x^2+x-5)

= 3x^2(2x^2+x-5)-2x(2x^2+x-5)-1(2x^2+x-5)

= 6x^4+3x^3-15x^2-4x^3-2x^2+10x-2x^2-x+5

= 6x^4-x^3-19x^2+9x+5

(ii) (2 – 3y – 5y2) by (2y- 1 + 3y2)

= (2-3y-5y^2)\times(2y-1+3y^2)

= 2(2y-1+3y^2)-3y(2y-1+3y^2)-5y^2(2y-1+3y^2)

= 4y-2+6y^2-6y^2+3y-9y^3-10y^3+5y^2-15y^4

= -15y^4-19y^3+5y^2+7y-2
