The LyricsWhen I saw “Soul on
Fire” by Third Day on the list of Songs to Look For at SteubySTL, I knew this post had to happen. When something gets me this excited, I can’t help but share it. We all have certain songs that resonate with this longing deep inside and express our feelings perfectly in words we couldn’t find. Verse 1: Bridge: Chorus 2: What They MeanThe song begins as a search for God amidst all the other things happening in our life. Above all, we want to put God first and rest knowing we have found our passion and purpose. We are running, set on reaching that place where we feel alive and inspired. We are longing for His ways, set on seeing His work in our life only visualized when that fire overcomes our own desires. There will be experiences we go through where we feel so consumed by the fire within us that it can’t help but show through us, and THAT is what it’s all about. The trick is to keep the fire burning after those moments are long gone.
Even once our souls have ignited with an insistent longing to draw closer to Jesus, distractions and our own imperfection step in. Sometimes we lose hope; we just can’t connect to that passion we felt so strongly. When it dims, we need to reignite the light burning within us. At times it doesn’t seem easy to refuel this fire we so deeply long for and day to day life seems to slowly diminish the flame. Here’s the good news, we can always put our feet on the ground and start running again. As we get closer to SteubySTL, I encourage you to do one thing as we prepare for this weekend meant to fuel your fire within. Find some inspiration! Whether it is a favorite song, Bible verse, quote or prayer, keep it close to you and reflect on why it speaks so loudly to you at this point in your life. (If you find this song speaks to you as well, check out “Start a Fire” by Unspoken). What About You?When you find inspiration, we want to know about it! Share it with the world and maybe someone else will add it as fuel to their fire. Comment on this post with what fuels your fire, or tell us about it by using #steubystl on Twitter! Written by Laura Dieckhoff Originally from SW Missouri, Laura moved to St. Louis to attend Saint Louis University where she is pursuing a degree in Theology with a minor in Biology. She loves learning more about her faith and turning popular songs into meal prayers. She is also an aspiring outdoor adventure-woman who dreams of working full-time at an outdoor Catholic camp. Who wrote the song Soul on Fire? The rumbling, bluesy “Soul on Fire”, a plea for restoration of that original fire and passion of our faith - had its origins with South African worship leader and songwriter Brenton Brown, who graciously allowed THIRD DAY to change its arrangement and add a verse.
Will third day get back together?Third Day is still together; Powell is just continuing to pursue what's been a longtime career goal. “I grew up listening to country music,” says the musician, whose family moved from Clanton, Alabama, to Atlanta when he was a teen.
What happened to the band 3rd day?Following Third Day's retirement, Powell will continue making music with his band Mac Powell and the Family Reunion. In recent years, the gritty-voiced rocker has pursued a side career in country music, releasing two independent albums and touring solo as well as doing shows with country traditionalist Craig Morgan.
