The contact owns a 2010 Chrysler town and country. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start up after multiple attempts. There were several unknown warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact owns a 2010 Chrysler town and country. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph, the transmission abruptly down-shifted into a lower gear without warning. The failure occurred sporadically. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic five times for the same failure, but a failure code was not detected. I've been experiencing issues with my a/c unit however, whether this issue has anything to do with what happened tonight or not, I don't know. I had gone to turn my 2006 Chrysler town and country off while it was in park & it just started to roll backwards! I quickly reached for the gear shift to make sure it was in park but it already was! I then went to step on the brake & it still wouldn't stop! I have to believe this was nothing less than a major malfunction of some sort! the only thing that stopped me from rolling backwards was when my van crashed into my father-in-laws truck parked several feet behind me. This incident could have seriously hurt, even killed someone had they been in the way of my van rolling backwards! my 7 month old daughter was in my arms as this occurred. I had simply reached across from the passenger side to shut the engine off when all of this happened. I managed to jump one leg across to the drivers side to put my foot on the brake just to find out it wasn't going to stop the van from rolling backwards anyways!.

Need to have the transmission rebuilt at 53,000 miles on our 2007 Chrysler Town & Country. Transmission should not go after 53,000 miles . I could understand if I had 100,000 miles or more. Just cheap materials used to save money, the metal shavings were found when we had the transmission fluid changed before we took a long trip out of the country, to canada. The repair shop notice a problem and warned us to not wait to long to fix the problem. Upon fixing the transmission they also found pieces of metal from possibly the gears were breaking up or the housing that holds the needle bearings cracked and was adding to the problem. We contacted Chrysler corp. About the problem , but all they would do is, nothing, because we did not purchase a extended warranty. Their warranty web site stated that 2007 models purchased after July of 2007, that they were giving a lifetime warranty on the power train. Sounds to me , they either found out about the problem , or some other reason. Nevertheless, the material use was inadequate, processes such as hardening of the gears, were wrong, but yet passed inspection. I could have been in serious accident if the metal shavings, or metal pieces got in between the teeth of the gear traveling at highway speeds. It cost me about $3,500. 00 to fix the transmission. I sent a letter to Chrysler corp. Explaining the problem, with copies of the repair work done plus rental car that was needed for a week. Some my have an extended warranty so, they did not complain. I fell Chrysler should reimburse me for this.

While driving in normal traffic on a level six lane ( three lanes on each side) road, proceeded to pass another vehicle using normal acceleration. Throttle stuck and car continued to accelerate. Placed shift lever in neutral. Tachometer indicated 4000rpm. Brought vehicle to stop and turned off ignition. Vehicle was a 2008 Chrysler Town & Country. 3. 8 liter engine 33262 miles, engine temperature normal (warm ). Ambient temperature 44degrees f, dewpoint 31 degrees f restarted engine and engine performed normal. Brought to dealer and the most likely problem was carbon buildup in throttle body.

I was the second owner of a 1998 town and country and thought everything was great until my 2 year old climbed into the driver seat, pulled the vehicle out of park and into neutral. Had the back sliding door not been open for me to jump in and put the van into park it would have coasted into the neighbors front porch. On another occurrence I was loading the van with some items from the rear when I realized my daughter again got into the drivers seat to pretend drive. I realized that she was there and went to the front but was too late. She pulled the vehicle out of park (no keys. . . They were in my pocket) and ran into the another neighbors fence and trash cans. I was furious that the dealer I spoke to said the shift interlock was not installed until 2000 and refused to help so I traded it in for a 2005 with one previous owner. I thought we would be alright since it is suppose to have a shift interlock (the dash even states to press the brake to shift out of park) but just today my daughter, now 4, climbed into the drivers seat (without the keys in the ignition) at my sister-in-laws house and drove my 2005 van into her school van. I now need to replace the front bumper. Chrysler has yet to do anything and I am not the first to complain about this.

My mother was driving a 1997 Chrysler Town & Country Mini-van when she stopped to pick up yard sale signs. When she stopped the vehicle and placed it park, she exited the van and started walking towards the rear of the van when it self-shifted into reverse, known as the park-to-reverse defect. The van knocked my mother down and pinned her under the van where she died from blunt force trauma to the head. This is a known defect but has never been recalled in Chrysler vehicles. There have been numerous complaints and you have even investigated this very defect 3 or 4 times previous to my mothers death and have never done anything about it, now I don't have a mother. The vehicle was inspected by an engineer and he concluded that the vehicle did have the park-to reverse defect. The vehicle would go into false park and seconds later, it would go into reverse. When the vehicle was tested, it happened four out of ten times. While visiting a relative my 2005 Chrysler town and country was parked on a driveway that slopes down a bit. While loading the car and in a moment of inadvertence, my 2 year old son was able to open the door of my vehicle and climb behind the wheel and shift the car from park into a different gear. My son was able to do this without the keys in the ignition and (obviously) he was unable to reach any pedals. The result was that the vehicle started moving down the driveway, crossed a 2 lane street and struck the side curb and a mailbox on the opposite side of the street causing damage to my car and the mailbox that was taken down by the car. After this incident I called Chrysler and informed them about this accident and that in my opinion the shift-brake-interlock system should have prevented this accident. The shift-brake-interlock system is an important safety feature that prevents anyone from shifting gears without suppressing the brake pedal. Chrysler did assign an investigator who inspected my car at a local Chrysler dealership. They declined my complaint the inspection revealed that there was no evidence of a malfunction which would cause the vehicle to move itself. ¿ as of today, the vehicle still has the issue with the shift-brake-interlock system and myself am able to easily move this car from park to neutral or any other position without keys in the ignition and/or without suppressing the brake pedal. I feel that Chrysler did not investigate my complaint thoroughly and fear that im perhaps not the only person that is affected by this problem. Im the first owner of this vehicle, this car was never in an accident and has been driven very carefully so im very concerned about this safety hazard and the dangers that this could bring to other parents/families who perhaps are driving around without the knowledge that this important safety feature does not function correct on their town and country.

I bought a 2003 town and country and have only had this van for 4 yrs and I am having to replace the transmission b/c according to the mechanic the magnet that was suppose to be put in the transmission pan was not there to pull the metals out of transmission therefore it messed up my transmission how was I suppose to know that.

The transmission went out on my 2002 Chrysler Town & Country Mini van as we were driving on the freeway. The van had only 51,700 miles on it! I had it towed to the nearest dealership, and they wanted $4,000 to fix it. I called Chrysler to ask if they would cover the cost of the repair since the mileage was so low, but they refused to help me because the warranty was up. I had it fixed at a transmission shop where they rebuilt the transmission. I don't have the old parts available. There must be a defect in the transmission, or some kind of "weak" parts for it to go out at such low mileage. I do regular maintenance on the van, I change the oil every 3,000 miles, and even did the 30,000 miles service that was highly recommended by the dealership!.

The contact stated that every time she drives her vehicle and attempts to stop, the vehicle hesitates with a couple of feet of braking distance before it finally stops. The vehicle has been taken to the dealer three times regarding this failure. The first time, the dealer stated that the rear rotors were out of spec and they repaired the rear rotors. The second and third times, the dealer stated that the vehicle needed a software update to the transmission. The dealer has not yet created the update and did not know when it would be created. The speed was unknown. The current mileage was 2,400 and failure mileage was 4.

Events leading up to failures on 2. 28. 07, I purchased a 2003 Chrysler Town & Country lxi with 56,000 miles from arlington Acura in palatine, IL after a carchex inspection & test drive. Upon driving home to minnesota that day on interstate expressways, I encountered two major mechanical problems: failure, consequences & repairs 1. Shuddering & leaking rack & pinion - dealer advised these are common failures for this model and recommended replacement for $800 ASAP because a dry cylinder will lock the steering column. Chrysler will not replace under it's 7/70 powertrain warranty, so I will have to pay this when I get the money. 2. Jerking transmission shifting from 1st to 2nd gear - during four visits, dealer attempted to find cause, spending $3,000 in warranty repairs. They said Chrysler's star tech service told them this was "a known problem for which there is no current fix. " a subsequent e-mail from me (the owner) to Chrysler resulted in a boilerplate letter saying the problem was a dealer issue. My wife has cancer and a heart condition and cannot bear the strain of a malfunctioning transmission on her "new" car.

- the contact has a 2002 minivan caravan. The contact stated that when she put the car in reverse or tried to switch gears, the vehicle wouldn't move. She took her vehicle to a dealer for service on 11/24/2006, and it passed there 16 point vehicle check. The contact stated that on 01/04/2007 the car wouldn't switch into gears and she took the vehicle have the transmission repaired because she believed that the failure involved the transmission. The contact was told that the transmission needed to be fixed, and then told that she needed a new transmission. When the contact picked up her vehicle it had not been repaired. After telling the contact that she would receive a new transmission, the contact received a rebuilt transmission. The vehicle still didn't work properly, the dealer told the contact that they were not equipped to repair her vehicle. She has still not found someone who could repair the vehicle properly.

Car was in drive but went into reverse on numerous occasions. Engine light came on took the car in transmission, engine , and other parts was found out to be ok or was replaced or fixed. Took car back out and it is still gearshifting from drive to neutral to reverse when the console states the car is in drive.

There is not a locking mechanism to putting the car in gear while depressing the brake. I noticed it by accident one day while I was cleaning it and accidentally pulled it into gear. Not only is this a major safety concern but is also a theft issue. Chrysler really needs to step up to the plate with some of the major safety issues with this vehicle!.

The problem is with the transmission. First problem was discovered in December 2005. The dealer fixed the problem. Next problem occurred March 22. He car was towed to the dealer and it's still there until this time. Talked to the dealer and daimler Chrysler corporation a number of times and have not heard of any good news either from the dealer or daimler Chrysler corporation. We need help and assistance because we I really don't know what's going on.

I was vacuuming my 1999 Chrysler Town & Country van before church when my 1 year old son pulled the shifter out of park and the van rolled down our driveway. The drivers door struck a tree causing $1800 damage. The keys to the van were in my pocket. Chrysler was contacted and sent an investigator out to determine what had occurred. I never received a copy of the investigation and contacted Chrysler to obtain a copy and was told by them that I would need a court subpoena to have a copy sent to me. My van taken to the local dealer by the Chrysler investigator to determine what was wrong. I was not given a copy of what they found and Chrysler would not send one as well without a subpoena. While the van was at the body shop, I noticed that nothing was done to correct the fact that the van can be taken out of park without keys in the ignition. Chrysler had the opportunity to fix this while they were doing their investigation and did nothing.

The vehicle had an alignment, the tires rotated and replaced and the failure recurred. Five dealers stated after diagnosing the vehicle that the transmission caused the failure to occur. At the time of purchase the sales person astated that the vehicle only needed an alignment. The contact stated that the failure was directly related to NHTSA recall 03v240000.
