The Xbox Series X and Series S are excellent next-gen machines, yet, no matter how good they are, there will always be room for improvement. Accessories like the Elite Series 2 Controller and the Xbox Stereo Headset can help you get the most of your new console, while others, like Seagate’s Storage Expansion Cards, will help ensure you have ample storage space for years to come. Below, we’ve listed some of the best accessories available for the Series X / S, some of which are even on sale at most major retailers.

$54

First up, controllers. You probably already know that the last-gen Xbox Wireless Controller is compatible with the Xbox One as well as the new Series X / S consoles. However, the older controller model lacks a few features that might make the newer one a worthy upgrade for you.
For instance, the revised controller has a dedicated share button for saving clips and screenshots and sharing them online, a USB-C port for charging up Microsoft’s play-and-charge rechargeable battery, and a few cosmetic and physical improvements to the D-pad and triggers. It’s not a completely new controller, like the PlayStation 5’s DualSense, but that comes through with its lower price tag. Regularly $60, you can currently pick up the Xbox Wireless Controller for $54.99 and $54 in white or black respectively at GameStop. Meanwhile, Amazon is selling the shock blue version for $59, while Best Buy is selling the same color for $64.99. Amazon is also selling the $74.99 Forza Horizon 5 limited edition for $69.
In addition to working with the Xbox consoles, the new controller also has Bluetooth support so you can easily connect it to your Android phone, iPhone, or PC. If your PC doesn’t have Bluetooth, you can pick up the Xbox wireless adapter made for Windows 10. Best Buy sells the aforementioned PC adapter for $24.99. Microsoft launched a new controller with a translucent design in honor of the console’s 20th birthday last year, too, one that is reminiscent of the first see-through controllers Microsoft shipped with the original Xbox debug kits. You can buy them for $69.99 at GameStop.

$139.99

If you’re willing to fork out a bit of extra money, it may be worth investing in the Xbox Elite Series 2.
While nearly double the price of the Xbox wireless controller, we once dubbed it the best Xbox controller you can buy. We loved how customizable it is, as well features like the adjustable-tension thumbsticks, the paddles for custom button mapping, and the shorter hair-trigger locks. The controller also offers USB-C and Bluetooth connectivity, and great battery life whether you’re playing on an Xbox One, Xbox Series X, or Windows 10 device. In fact, we were able to enjoy roughly 40 hours of playtime on a single charge.
Although the Elite Series 2 typically sells for $179.99, we often see discounts on the controller. Right now, for example, Microsoft and Target are selling the black variant for $139.99. Microsoft also launcheda new Halo-themed Xbox Elite 2 controller in November alongside a limited-edition, Halo-themed Xbox Series X, however, it’s currently only available on the second-hand market.

Xbox Wireless Headset

$99.99

You don’t have to miss a call while you game thanks to Microsoft’s Xbox Wireless Headset. In our review, we found it to be a comfortable, intuitively designed headset that’s well worth the price. In addition to working well with Xbox consoles, it can connect to another device simultaneously via Bluetooth.

Xbox Stereo Headset

$59.99

If a $100 wireless headset is too expensive for you, however, Microsoft’s wired Xbox Stereo Headset is available at the Microsoft Store for $59.99, nearly half the price. The design is the same, though some features, including the chat/game audio dial found on the Xbox Wireless Headset, are missing.
Those interested in wired headsets also may be interested to know that Microsoft released a special-edition wired gaming headset in honor of the console’s 20th birthday in November. The black headset sports translucent ear cups, a green anniversary design on the left cup, and green accents on the grilles between the ear pads and cups. It costs $69.99 at the Microsoft Store and Best Buy.

PowerA Charging Stand

$19.99

If you want to save money on pricey replacement batteries, consider picking up a charging stand when you buy your controller. The PowerA charging stand offers a 1,100mAh rechargeable battery and two battery doors, as well as a USB charging cable. It’s also compatible with both the Xbox Series X / S and Xbox One wireless controllers. While we don’t often see deals on the device, Amazon and PowerA sell the black and white configurations for $19.99.

$107.24

Delegating your older games to slower, but far cheaper storage is a clever way to let you have all of your games accessible without crowding your already-limited SSD space — especially when there’s a sale. Right now, you can pick up Seagate’s special edition Game Pass version of the 4TB Game Drive For Xbox at $107.24 instead of $149.99. This model comes with two complimentary months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which offers access to more than 100 games and other perks.
However, it’s worth pointing out that any external USB drive will be significantly slower to load than what the Series X’s and Series S’s respective SSDs can handle. $139.99

Of course, you can buy faster storage to add onto your Series X / S console, but it’ll cost you significantly more money than the option above. Microsoft partnered with Seagate to make proprietary SSDs that can be inserted into the rear of either console. The SSDs are currently available in multiple configurations, including a 512GB model for $139.99, a 1TB variant for $216.95, and a 2TB version for $399.99. All three are supposedly just as fast as the storage inside your new console, so this is the best place to keep all of the new games you want to quickly load and switch between at will.

$26.19

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate offers access to more than 100 titles, including the likes of Doom, Hades, and Halo Infinite, which you can play on multiple devices. The pass also gives subscribers access to exclusive deals, online multiplayer, and Microsoft’s cloud gaming service, Xbox Cloud Gaming.

$997

LG’s C1 OLED is a great gaming TV with support for Nvidia G-Sync and AMD FreeSync technologies, along with a 120Hz refresh rate, low input lag, and a fast processor. It also boasts a “Game Optimizer” dashboard, a settings pane that conveniently brings together game-centric settings like refresh rate and latency for quicker access. The 55-inch model is currently $997 at eBay when you use the code SHOPTECH15 at checkout.

8Bitdo Media Remote

$19.99

If a new TV is out of your budget, you can still make playing games on your existing set more enjoyable for cheap with 8BitDo’s infrared media remote. In our review, we concluded the remote does a good job if your Xbox is your primary streaming device. It offers Xbox buttons so you can easily navigate menus and apps, as well as a Home button that wakes up your Xbox instantly. We have yet to see discounts on the remote, but the white, Short Edition sells for only $20 at Amazon. Amazon also has the black Long Edition, which features a number pad, for $25.

Xbox Series X Replica Mini Fridge

$99.99

Speaking of TVs, it’s easier than ever now to Xbox and chill thanks to the recently-released Xbox Series X Replica Mini Fridge. The small fridge can hold up to 12 cans — well as snacks, using the included shelves — and boasts a USB on the front as well as a DC power adapter so it can be portable. At the moment, it looks like this fridge is available to purchase in some stores but not to buy online.

Are Xbox One and Xbox series S controllers the same size?

All types of Xbox controller are effectively the same size. There is a very slight increase in bulkiness with the Elites. There is a very slight difference in visual shape with the One X controller, but it feels the same and very familiar in your hands.
