The Phlebotomy Technician training program at Houston Community College involves two different courses. The first is called Phlebotomy. This is a 96-hou-long course that will teach students about what Phlebotomists do and how to perform basic Phlebotomy skills. The second course is Phlebotomy Clinical. This is a 120-hour long course that will give students hands on experience working in a real health care facility or laboratory. There is also an optional review course before the certification exam that is 8 hours long.

The Phlebotomy program at Lone Star College involves both in class learning and hands on clinical training. It can be taken for credit or not for credit, but those who take the course for credit can use the credits towards other certificates and degrees in the future.

The third day of training is centered around hands on learning and Phlebotomy skills practice. Students will learn about different methods of blood collection like the vacutainer system, syringes, and butterfly needles. They will practice on a training aid and then on a partner in the class. This course includes 5 different classes and an externship.
