STEP ONE: Preheat your air fryer at 380 degrees.

STEP TWO Cut your sweet potatoes into 1/2 inch strips to create fries. Cutting them any wider, like into sweet potato wedges will need longer to cook.

STEP THREE: Coat the sweet potato fries in olive oil then add the fine sea salt, garlic powder, paprika, and mix to combine seasoning evenly.

STEP FOUR: Place the sweet potato fries in the air fryer and cook for 15 to 18 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through cooking.

  • Sweet potatoes aren’t to be confused with yams, which are white, not orange inside.

  • Determine what kind of seasoning you want to use on your fries. You could keep it simple with a little salt, pepper, and paprika. Or, you could spice things up (literally) with some other herbs and spices. The choice is yours!
  • Don’t overcrowd your sweet potato fries in the air fryer basket. In fact, you should NEVER fill your air fryer basket more than halfway full.
  • Cut your potatoes evenly.
  • Flip your fries or shake the basket halfway through the cooking time for best results! Honestly, you can even shake them every 5 minutes if you would like.

How to Cut Sweet Potato Fries Out of Fresh Potatoes

You can cook frozen sweet potato fries in your air fryer, but if you’re up for it, you can also use fresh potatoes! Here’s what to remember when cutting your sweet potatoes into wedges:

  • When picking out your sweet potatoes, make sure to choose ones that are medium-sized and not too long. 
  • Peel the potatoes and cut off any super skinny end pieces.
  • Cut the potatoes in half lengthwise, then begin cutting into smaller, fry-sized pieces. 

Remember: the thinner you cut your wedges, the crispier your fries will be – and they will cook quicker!

One of my favorite air fryer features is the fact that I can cook frozen food in it! That means that you can most definitely whip up a quick batch of frozen sweet potatoes in the air fryer.

Below is how to make sweet potato fries in an air fryer, frozen edition.

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees F.
  2. Place the frozen sweet potato fries in the air fryer basket. You can stack them, but make sure not to fill the basket completely.
  3. Cook the fries for 7-8 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through the cooking time. If they look too dry, you can spray a bit of oil.
  4. When the fries are done cooking, remove them from the basket and enjoy!

Opt for varieties with a higher smoke point such as vegetable oil, coconut oil, olive oil, avocado oil, or canola oil.
