How to change bank account for irs refund

For security reasons, we cannot modify the routing number, account number, or the type of account from what was entered when you filed your return. If the account is closed, the bank will reject the refund. Once we receive the refund back from the bank, the Comptroller's Office will issue a paper check and mail it to you.

You may want to submit a foreign bank account number to us or change the foreign bank account number registered with us.

The reason for this could be:

  • We have sent you a letter regarding a tax refund for the transfer of which we need to know your current bank account number.
  • You have a new bank account number you would like to submit to us, for instance for a future income tax refund.

How you do this, depends on whether the bank account is a private account or a business account.

  • Private bank account number

Is it an account number for receiving benefits or refunds from income tax and paid Health Care Act contributions and is the new number an IBAN (account number)? Then you can pass it on or change it online, just like you would if it were a domestic bank account.

In all other cases please inform us in writing about the new details. Please state the following in your letter:

    • your name
    • your address, postal code, place of residence and country
    • your Citizen Service Number (bsn)
    • the benefit or tax the bank account number is connected with
    • your new bank account number
    • your bank’s BIC code
If your bank does not have a BIC code, please fill in the complete foreign bank account number, including any bank codes.
    • the name connected to the bank account number
This is the name mentioned on the account.
    • your bank’s country of residence
    • your signature

Is it an account number for receiving benefits or refunds income tax and the paid Healthcare Act contributions? Please enclose copies of:

    • valid proof of identity (passport, identity card, Dutch Foreign National Identity Document)
    • a bank statement that shows both your name and account number (hard copy or digital), or your bank’s recent confirmation of your bank account’s application (less than 2 months old).

How do I change my bank account for my refund?

Step 1: Step 1: Log in to the e-Filing portal using your user ID and password. Step 2: Go to the My Profile page from the Dashboard. Step 3: Click My Bank Account. Step 4: Click the Nominate for Refund toggle or switch for the bank account you want to designate for a refund in order to do so.

Can I change which account I get my refund if I haven't received?

If the IRS has accepted your return already, you won't be able to change your bank and routing number for your tax refund. You can only request that the IRS issue you a check – and that's only if the return has not yet been processed.
