If you've been craving more supernatural dramas since "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina" ended, Netflix's series "Fate: The Winx Saga" is here to satisfy your binge-watching needs. The first season premiered on Jan. 22, 2021, and it's filled with tons of drama, magic, and mystery. On Feb. 18, 2021, Netflix confirmed that the series had been renewed for a second season, which will consist of eight episodes. The streamer released the official trailer on Aug. 23, and it foreshadows a dramatic follow-up to the first season's intense conclusion.
The series is based on the animated series "Winx Club," which ran for eight seasons, so there is plenty of source material for the upcoming season. While the Netflix series faced criticism for its live-action adaptation, particularly the whitewashing of some of the main fairies, the intriguing plot certainly drew audiences in.

The second season will give Netflix the opportunity to right some of the wrongs fans have addressed. In an interview with The Wrap, Cowen briefly addressed the whitewashing criticism, adding that she hopes Flora — an Earth fairy from the original cartoon who is Latina — will be introduced. "Flora is actually not in our series," she explained, noting that Eliot Salt's character, Terra, was never intended to replace Flora. She added: "If we are lucky enough to get a second season, I think Flora would be brought in and I would definitely welcome that. I'm not a part of the casting process, but I do think, if the series does go to a second season, I think hopefully these concerns are something that can be addressed, because I do think diversity both in front of and behind the camera is vital and much-needed throughout the industry and internationally. So I think it's important that we are having these conversations."
The first season follows Cowen's character, Bloom, as she grows in her abilities as a fairy and uncovers the dark truth about her real birth parents. After teaming up with her classmates at the magical school of Alfea, she is able to come to terms with her past, but not without some major drama. In the final episode, the ladies return to Alfea to find that the school has been taken over by former headmistress Rosalind, and by the looks of it, chaos ensues. With so many loose ends, we can't wait to see how everything comes together in season two.

The second season of "Fate: The Winx Saga" will star returning cast members Abigail Cowen as Bloom, Hannah van der Westhuysen as Stella, Precious Mustapha as Aisha, Eliot Salt as Terra and Elisha Applebaum as Musa. Additionally, Miranda Richardson will join the cast as the new headmistress Rosalind, while Daniel Betts will play Professor Harvey and Paulina Chávez will portray Latina earth fairy Flora.

Netflix subscribers have fallen in love with the streaming service's intriguing fantasy series, "Fate: The Winx Saga", which is a more mature, live-action reimagining of the Italian-American animated kids series "Winx Club." The six-episode first season from Brain Young ("The Vampire Diaries") debuted in late January of 2021 and introduced us to five fairies who attend a magical school in the Otherworld.
The first season follows Bloom Peters (Abigail Cowen), a fire fairy who grew up in the human world after being swapped out with a human child shortly after birth. With little to no control over her destructive powers — which caused a fire that left her adoptive mother badly scarred — Bloom enrolls at Alfea, a special school for fairies and non-magical students known as "specialists," after being recruited by its headmistress, Farah Dowling (Eve Best). Over the course of the first season, Bloom becomes more and more adept at using her fire powers until she's finally able to awaken an ancient power within her and use it to defeat an incoming attack by supernatural creatures known as Burned Ones.
While there was plenty going on in the first season of "Fate: The Winx Saga," it felt more like a prologue to a larger and more in-depth adventure. Luckily, we're starting to learn more about what that adventure is. Here's everything we know about the Netflix show's second season.

What is the release date for Fate: The Winx Saga Season 2?

In mid-February of 2021, less than one month after the show debuted, Netflix announced that "Fate: The Winx Saga" would return for a second season with a themed renewal announcement video. The new season will consist of eight one-hour episodes, up from six in Season 1. Principal photography on Season 2 wrapped up in November of 2021, according to an Instagram post by Abigail Cowen. In an interview with Collider in January of 2022, Cowen revealed fans had a bit of waiting to do before they could check out the next batch of episodes.
Thankfully, it turns out that the wait for "Fate: The Winx Saga" Season 2 didn't have to drag on for too long after Cowen's comments. On July 27, 2022, Netflix took to YouTube to announce when the new episodes would finally drop: September 16, 2022. To build hype for the impending season, the announcement video included interviews with the cast, who each had some interesting comments about where the story will go. It also featured some behind-the-scenes footage of the cast and crew making Season 2 a reality and a small handful of clips from the upcoming episodes.

Netflix has confirmed that a number of cast members will be reprising their roles in the second season of "Fate: The Winx Saga." Abigail Cowen will return as Bloom, Hannah van der Westhuysen will return as Stella, Precious Mustapha will be back as Aisha, Eliot Salt will return as Terra, and Elisha Applebaum is returning as Musa. Additionally, you can count on seeing Sadie Soverall back as Beatrix, Theo Graham as Dane, Freddie Thorp as Riven, Jacob Dudman as Sam, Danny Griffin as Sky, Ken Duken as Andreas, and Rob James Collier as Silva.
To shake things up for Season 2, "Fate: The Winx Saga" added three fresh faces to the cast list in July of 2021. First is Éanna Hardwicke as Sebastian, whose filmography includes extended runs on "Smother" and "Normal People." Next is relative acting newcomer Brandon Grace, who will portray the character Grey, and finally, there's Paulina Chávez as Flora. She is known best for playing the titular character on "The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia" and featuring in 2019's "Padre Pio" (via Deadline).
One Season 1 cast member we likely won't see in Season 2 is Eve Best, whose character Farah Dowling was the headmistress of Alfea. She was killed in the final moments of the Season 1 finale by Rosalind, Alfea's former headmistress, who is now portrayed by Miranda Richardson for Season 2 instead of Lesley Sharp. Also, Daniel Betts will take over for Alex Macqueen as Professor Harvey (via Deadline).

According to showrunner and executive producer Brian Young, the first season of "Fate: The Winx Saga" was just the tip of the iceberg, so to speak. "The six episodes in Season 1 only scratched the surface of this incredibly rich world and the powerful fairies who inhabit it," Young said in a statement announcing the show's renewal. "As Bloom's story continues to evolve, I can't wait for you to learn even more about Aisha, Stella, Terra, and Musa! And you never know who might show up at Alfea next term..."
Young's statement doesn't tell us much, but it does sound like we have a lot new to look forward to when the show returns. However, the show's second season will obviously first have to deal with the fallout of the events of the first season finale, which found Rosalind — newly released from her prison after manipulating Bloom — back in charge of Alfea after murdering Dowling.
There's also the matter of Andreas' return from the grave, which is shocking enough on its own but becomes even more complicated by the revelation that he didn't "die" a war hero. Silva, believing Andreas was about to wipe out an entire city full of innocent people, killed him. However, he obviously didn't die that day. Instead, he was nursed back to health and lived in hiding, biding his time until he could safely return and assist Rosalind in whatever nefarious plans she has for Alfea and the fairies.
Additionally, during the release date announcement, Eliot Salt and Abigail Cowen teased threats ranging from Blood Witches to the Scrapers. Hannah van der Westhuysen also hinted at plenty of action in addition to budding romance. Suffice to say, the plot of Season 2 of "Fate: The Winx Saga" is going to be quite complicated.
Is there a trailer for Fate: The Winx Saga Season 2?
Not too long after the release date for "Fate: The Winx Saga" Season 2 was announced, Netflix treated fans of the series to a trailer for it. Right out of the gate, it takes us back to the doors of Alfea, and when we go inside, we're greeted by several familiar faces. The likes of Bloom and Terra sit practicing their magic, though it's soon revealed that Bloom and her colleagues aren't likely to hold their abilities back this season. We then see that change is in the air at Alfea under the watchful eye of Rosalind, and it doesn't seem to be for the better.
As the trailer goes on, we learn that attendees of Alfea have mysteriously gone missing as of late, with the implication being that Rosalind has something to do with it. In the face of this threat, we see our new heroes prepare to do whatever they have to for the sake of those they care about and the school itself. Although, Bloom's lingering uncertainly surrounding where she comes from will apparently be a sticking point for her as this conflict unfolds. The trailer ends with Terra, Stella, Aisha, and Bloom using their powers in unison for reasons that the teaser doesn't make clear.
All in all, Season 2 of "Fate: The Winx Saga" looks appropriately dramatic, action-packed, and mysterious, as you'd expect. Surely all kinds of surprises are in store beyond what the trailer has to offer.
