Did I ever tell you about the time I almost dyed my hair black? Long story short, I was going through a pretty tough break up and, for reasons that I won’t go into, I hated everything about myself, especially my red locks.

Years before this (very dramatic) event even occured, I had always hated my hair colour and had always longed for brown/dark hair. Growing up I always felt like the odd ball because in school there was only a couple of red heads, and although I was never bullied sometimes nasty comments were made that were always focused on my gingerness. So, this plus the impact of what happened during the break up, nearly resulted in me making a very stupid mistake.

Fast-forward and I’m glad I put that bottle of dye down before any permanent damage was made. Over the years I’ve come to love my hair colour, it’s one of the things that makes me unique and quite frankly I don’t think I’d suit another hair colour. I’ve learnt to be grateful for my bold ginger locks, (I mean, people pay £££’s for my hair colour) so I want to ensure it looks and feels its best.

I’m thrilled to say that over the past month, I’ve been using the John Frieda Radiant Red Shampoo and Conditioner. That’s right, hair products that are suitable for both natural and colour-treated red hair. The shampoo is set to protect, preserve and enhance red shades, while the conditioner promises to replenish and seal in moisture.

The shampoo itself is red and has a consistency of jelly, but since using it I have found that my hair looks a lot more vibrant. Now, I’m not just saying this but I would describe my hair as strawberry-blonde. Seriously, in the summer the blonde pieces in my hair lighten so much that people always comment; “when did you get highlights?” Then in the winter, it looks almost brown. I was expecting my hair to darken a lot over winter, as it usually does, but it didn’t year this and I believe it’s down to these products.

Believe it, or not, I’ve only just got back into using conditioner. I was told along time ago that conditioner weighted my hair down and made it greasier faster. Up until recently I found that wasn’t the case, so have once again introduced this into my haircare routine.

At the moment I’m desperate for a haircut (at the moment I don’t have time or the spare funds for this) and the conditioner has really helped to keep my hair looking healthy and feeling super soft until I can get to the salon.

From a natural redhead to another, I would recommend these products and I will be purchasing them once these ones run out. I’m so happy that a hair product dedicated to red hair has launched, however, there’s one thing I don’t understand. If John Frieda can create a shampoo and conditioner combo for redheads, where the hell is the ginger hair emoji Apple?!
