Jul 31, 2015 2014 XTS - left side DRL out. 86K miles - dealer says I need to replace the entire headlight assy. I guess if I was a service writer on commission, I'd recommend the most expensive option as well. It's a fricking burnt out bulb somewhere. Already went through the $300 burnt out headlight deal. WTF? Joined

did you ever figure this out looks like I'm having the same problem with my 14 XTS and the dealer told me it needed to be replaced I guess so I can spend the $1300 for the replacement.

DRL replacement doesn't look hard, as long as you have the right tools to remove and re-torque fasteners. It's a multi-step procedure involving removing the front tire, wheelhouse liner, (and for the driver's side: Removing the Windshield Washer Solvent Container and Filler tube.) Then the DRL light is disconnected and the fasteners removed.
You can do this yourself and buy the parts for the same price the dealers pay on any one of a large number of GM OEM parts vendors online. Just make sure you know what the shipping charges are, because some make their profit by overcharging. Here's one source I've had good luck with: http://www.gmpartscenter.net/index.php?type=parts Detailed procedures are in the Service manual
(expensive) or here for $10/day unlimited access (cheap): https://www.repairprocedures.com/index.php The illustrations contained in the procedures really help out --more than words can describe - especially with component and fastener locations. If you go the online procedure route, ensure you download the headlight aiming procedure too. Just cut-and-paste the web pages into Word
docs. (You'll have to re-size the illustrations though.) CC Joined Mar 2, 2010 · 12,954 Posts

Hello Reem XTS, We’re truly sorry to hear about your XTS’s lights concerns. We can certainly understand how multiple trips to the dealership can be frustrating. We would be happy to take a further look into your concern and connect you with a certified GM dealership. To proceed, I will need your full contact, VIN, current mileage and your preferred GM dealership. We truly apologize for any inconveniences that this situation may have caused you. We look forward to hearing from you soon. Best, Joined Dec 13, 2004 · 64 Posts
Has anyone replaced this DRL diode? I have passenger DRL upper side out.... Joined Dec 13, 2004 · 64 Posts
I received my new DRL diode today. I’m going to do this repair tomorrow. Joined Dec 13, 2004 · 64 Posts
I just did this repair, worked like a charm! Not a bad bulb... bad diode. Thanks for the diagram. DRL diode on line for $52 sure beats $1000 for headlight assembly. No need to take headlight off... access through the wheel well, drop the bottom cover on one side so you can get a T-20 drive in there. 4 screws on the heat sink and connector. Thanks all for
