First found in a New Mexico Valley in the 1940s, the Champagne has quite the volatile history. The Dixon family began growing this apple as soon as it was discovered until the Las Canchas forest fire burned down the orchard in 2011. The family then moved to Cadott, WI and replanted their orchard. The Champagne Apple is their pride and joy.

This apple is neither widely known nor widely grown due to its limited availability. It is lime green in color that blushes slightly red sunside. The apple exhibits russeting sporadically around the apple. Its flesh is creamy in color to a near white and is crispy and juicy. The growers describe the apple as sweet yet spicy. The apple is great for eating and baking but, like the name suggests, is primarily used for wine and cider production.

Champagne apples are globular fruits with large shoulders. The glossy skin has a yellowish-green base and is covered with red striping and freckled with white specks. Some consider the champagne apple to have a perfect balance between tart and sweet flavors making it prized for fresh eating. The semi-dwarf trees are hardy to USDA zone 4.

I've never been a big one for the pumpkin obsession...at all. I'm also an avid B&BW collector, but I'm not one of those who fixates on their fall offerings. I found this in a 75% off bin at their last Semi-Annual Sale though, and it was just my taste.

One thing you should know is that the "apple" note, while present, isn't the most prevalent. It isn't an overwhelmingly apple scent, like DKNY Be Delicious, so if that's what you're looking for, this may be a bit different. This is perhaps more of a "caramel apple", or "candied apple", which of course is more fitting for the fall season. However, it's very sweet, and could easily be worn in summer.

The honey and champagne notes blend together so nicely, so I can see this one as a people-pleaser, which B&BW excels at making. I could see young tweens or even kids enjoying this, but I don't find it so saccharine that an adult couldn't wear it. It is basically all that the name states, not much by way of surprise notes. Sometimes, that's a good thing.

There is something about the particular combination of notes that has almost a "gumlike" quality. But I like that. It isn't pink bubblegum like in Paris Amour (though that also has champagne and apple notes, especially the lotion), and it isn't as strong as Forever Red, but it is there.

Overall, this is an extremely pleasant scent that I would recommend to anyone looking for an autumn scent that isn't pumpkin, but that is lighter and more carefree. This would be ideal for apple picking, bobbing for apples, or any sort of trip to a farm. I love the honey note; I think it's an underused note in fragrance. As with most B&BW scents, the siliage and projection aren't the strong suits, so apply liberally and reapply as you see fit. Layer it with the matching lotion for the best results; if you like the fragrance mist, you'll love the lotion.

What is a champagne apple?

Champagne apples are globular fruits with large shoulders. The glossy skin has a yellowish-green base and is covered with red striping and freckled with white specks.

What does champagne apple smell like?

Champagne Apple & Honey is fizzy and pretty. The lead note is the pink lady apple, which is sweet and effervescent. Honey comes in many variations, and the jasmine honey note leans more floral than sweet. It's a cousin to BBW Champagne Toast, which has a berry note in place of the apple here.

Can champagne be made from apples?

From apples, you can make your own duty-free champagne and it even tastes good. The first apple was, according to the Danish author Karen Syberg, an illegitimate child of the affair between a plum and a mead wort flower.

What does Bath and Body Works champagne apple smell like?

What it smells like: sipping bubbly drinks in the apple orchard. Fragrance notes: crisp apple, sparkling champagne, jasmine honey and autumn woods.
