Xbox series x vs playstation 5 reddit

Something that strangely doesn't get talked about, I was playing PGA tour 2k21 on my Xbox. I later turned on my ps5 and found that PGA 2k21 was part of their gamepass type service ps deluxe, so I downloaded it to see any differences. I was surprised at how much better it looks on the Xbox.

It turns out for some reason the ps5 is limited to 32gb speeds even though it has HDMI 2.1 which should allow 40gb like the Xbox. The end result was the ps5 was running 2160p RGB 12 bit (which means 4:2:2 subsampling) and 4l8 which is 4x8 for the GB lanes which is 32. It was also only playing at 60fps fixed frame rate.

Where as the Xbox runs at 2160p 10 bit (which means full 4:4:4 colour) 4l10 which means 40gb and running at 120fps. With freesync. That's a whole lot of differences for the same game. Better colour output, better bandwidth , better frame rate, and better technology (freesync).

I don't know why these things aren't reported more by places like digital foundry etc.

EDIT : Returnal a native ps5 game has the same result. RGB 12b 4L8. So 12 bit 4:2:2 and 32 GB bandwidth. Using Vrr not freesync obviously as the ps5 doesn't support freesync. So no, it's not just PGA tour being an old ps4 game causing the 32gb limit and the color depth issues.

I am still undecided but thanks everyone who have their thoughts opinions and advice was great. Hope you are all having a great day!

I've been really struggling to pick for these reasons

I've always wanted to play GoT, Bloodborne , Spiderman, GoW and the uncharted series

However for Xbox I game share and have game pass whilst also being a huge fan of the Halo series

I am not really that bothered about hardware as long as I can play with my mates even though majority are on PC

Any sort of help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks !

EDIT*** I DO NOT OWN A PC, I ONLY MENTIONED A PC AS MY MATES OWN

Playstation used to be much stronger on the exclusives, but I feel like recently Xbox has been doing good, especially once Starfield and Elder Scrolls 6 comes out

Then again, most games announced at the recent Xbox showcase are actually releasing on PS5 as well (even though they didn't say it during the showcase) - Flintlock, Overwatch 2, Hollow Knight 2, Minecraft Legends, Diablo 4, etc.

Honestly, just get what your friends play. Or own both! I find both are pretty decent at this point.

But if you want to play Death Stranding, God of War, Last of Us, Bloodborne, Ratchet&Clank, Returnal, Horizon Zero Dawn, Uncharted, etc. you should get a PS5

I’m curious to get the opinion of those who own both these consoles and how you decide where to play multiplatform games. I asked this on the PS5 board as well but am curious if a broader sample size.

I generally enjoy both consoles a lot and feel they both are good in there respective areas. I do admit I like the concept troller and UI on PS5 more, but I enjoy a lot of features on Xbox as well. I just don’t know where to get third party titles. I’ve noticed on sites like Digital Foundry they go back and forth and it depends on the game where it’s best played, but I have noticed the last few ones have favored the Xbox more. Though I’m not sure if these differences really matter or not. I also have a PC so maybe that should be a consideration.

Curious how you guys handle this. Thank you

Money is no object nor are my friends. I’m mainly a casual gamer and have been with Xbox since the 360 days. Currently I don’t have anything to game on, however, I don’t have near as much time as I did when I was younger and pretty much have 1-2 days a week where I can game. I’d love to play Demon Souls remake and all the exclusives I missed out on PS5 but, at the same time, and Xbox would allow me to play starfield, redfall, and all these backwards compatible titles I’ve LOVED like Dead Space 2 and Fallout New Vegas (all dlc). I honestly do not think I’m going to have enough time to play all these games so I guess it comes down to using my time for quality games. Let’s get some opinions rolling 💪

Hi all. I know this has been asked a million times ,so sorry. I had a PS5 digital. I just sold it in hopes of getting the standard. Why? Because I didn't care for digital game prices staying so high 18 months after the games release. I tried some exclusives with the new ps now /plus hybrid like miles morales and such and though they are visually amazing, they didn't really do anything for me

My reasoning now is to have a Ric based console so that I can buy games a bit cheaper after they are released. I had a series s as well and I did enjoy the quantity but sort of preferred Sony's controller and UI/familoairry and the fact that you could do screen recording with audio whereas that was missing on series s.

Finally, I'd like to ask what do you have and what do you enjoy about it?

Would you go to the other side and if so, why or why not ?
